This is a cartoon from the time before I got to know how to use Paint Shop Pro, because although there are full colour slides and there is a narrative, I am still using hand drawn speech bubbles. The story is in two parts, and portrays the inappropriateness and sheer brutality of the administration of injections in the old NHS asylums in the UK. Speak to someone who knows the time, and they may say:' Yes, I knew someone like that too.' This is also a take on the meaning of 'Doctor's orders'. What the doctor ordered, you would surely get. Even if by a Broadmoor-trained Teddy Boy.
South Central Pennsylvania has a strategic location for food companies, being within a few hours of major cities like New York, Philadelphia, and Baltimore. It offers available business sites, financing incentives, a skilled workforce, and a business friendly government to support the food cluster industry. The region has seen companies like Hershey, Verdelli Farms, and Murrys expand or locate operations due to these advantages.
These are unconnected stick drawings of people getting their butts injected in the old asylums in the UK. They all pointedly give a message. I've moved on a way now with my technique, and today use full colour slides with speech bubbles, and all my recent slide shows form a continuous narrative. Von Hinten 'Rein is a German phrase meaning 'in from behind!..
Did I get that right? In talking to one of the many Mauritian nurses in the NHS asylum at Hellingly in Sussex, UK, I asked to learn a few useful phrases of the patois they spoke, and which I could not understand. After all those years, can I remember the Mauritian words they taught me correctly? Whatever, this slide show is a primitive effort of single images showing who gave injections in the asylum, who got injections, and how they were given. Didn't know this took place? You do now.
This is a slide show of single images which are not connected into a narrative. They depict some of the combinations of injection-giver and injection-receiver that punctuated life for many in the old asylums of the British National Health Service. There are essences of the power relationship between patient and nurse from those days. The patient never gets to see the nurse's naked rear. The beneficiaries of the NHS regime were the paid staff, and those whose interests were served by the patients being out of the way for a long time. Strangely, we have Prime Minister Thatcher to thank for the closure of these pernicious institutions...She's not always associated with social justice!
I've just converted this slide deck to PowerPoint format with the assistance of Wicked Kippers here in Sussex, England. This slide show is a cartoon of the sort of situation that was encountered as a revolving door patient in the old English asylums, and I first put it together a couple years ago. It is set in 1979, the year that Margaret Thatcher became Prime Minister, and when she left office in 1990, the dreadful mental hospitals were mostly closed. Thanks, Mrs T!
The document discusses using CouchDB and Rails for cloud computing. Some key points:
- CouchDB is a document-oriented database that can be queried using JavaScript and offers incremental replication. It stores data as JSON documents and uses HTTP as its protocol.
- The speaker demonstrates parsing a Bible database into CouchDB and creating views to query verses.
- A Rails app is built on top with CouchDB as the backend to provide a frontend for querying the Bible data.
- Heroku and Slicehost are discussed as options for hosting the application in the cloud. Scaling is addressed through replication and proxying.

The Lebanon Valley in Pennsylvania has a strong connection to Germany since 1723. Several large German companies have prospered there in industries like food production, bioscience, medical, and construction materials. The valley has a strategic location linked to major US markets by highway, rail, and air and is within a few hours of major ports and airports on the East Coast. It offers abundant business park sites and incentives for German companies locating or expanding there, including infrastructure assistance, tax credits, low interest loans, and workforce training. The valley provides a skilled workforce and business-friendly government to support companies.
This document appears to be telling a story through snippets of text and dates. It references Christmas 2012, a John Lennon song, time spent in various locations like Hailsham, Eastbourne DGH hospital, Oakwood Hospital, and Canterbury Jail. The story mentions sleeping outside, getting the flu, fires being lit at night with flames approaching caravans, and eventually reaching an apparent result before concluding with "THE END".
This document discusses finding the perfect hat and lists several hat styles including a Kangol Tropica, tweed trilby, and olive stingy brim from Brixton. It also mentions an unstructured wool felt trilby with a new toning ribbon and provides a website for more information.
This document discusses concurrency in Ruby. It begins with an introduction to concurrency and how it differs from parallelism. It then discusses threads versus processes, and how threads are implemented in Ruby. Examples are given that demonstrate how appending to arrays is not thread-safe in MRI Ruby. The document also discusses how Rails 4 is concurrency enabled by default. It proposes using the actor model as an easier way to write safe concurrent code compared to using locks. Finally it provides examples of solving the producer-consumer problem using both locks and actors in JRuby.
When Ruby Meets Java - The Power of Torqueboxrockyjaiswal
This document discusses TorqueBox, an open source platform that allows Ruby on Rails applications to run on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) and take advantage of Java libraries and services. It highlights features like scheduling, services, messaging, background jobs, clustering, caching and performance. The document includes code samples and discusses how TorqueBox makes these enterprise features easy to use from Ruby. It also notes some risks of using an emerging technology but says the documentation is good and help is available online.

A calendar of twelve months plus cover. This 2015 edition is suitable for printing at a photoshop such as you might find online. Tesco's have withdrawn their 2-4-1 offer and no longer offer a cheap kitchen calendar design. This year, personally, I've gone for the Vistaprint offering of their desktop calendar.
