Talla is a 5-year-old boy who has trachoma, a painful eye disease caused by repeated eye infections that causes eyelashes to turn inward and can lead to blindness from every blink damaging the eyes. Trachoma can be treated effectively with a low-cost ointment, but millions of people in poor areas cannot afford it and are at risk of needless blindness. Talla is just five. He has trachoma, a painful eye disease which
can lead to a lifetime of blindness. Repeated infections cause
the eyelashes to turn inwards. Slowly and painfully, every blink
damages the eye and leads to blindness. Trachoma can be
treated effectively in its early stages with a course of ointment
costing just 50p – but for millions of people in the poorest parts
of the world this is still too much.
