Hacksaw Ridge is a true story about Desmond Doss, a WWII Army medic who refused to carry or use weapons due to his religious beliefs. The film follows Doss from his training, where he endured abuse from fellow soldiers for his pacifism, to the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. There, without a weapon for self-defense, Doss saved 75 men, earning the Medal of Honor. The film is superbly acted, especially by Andrew Garfield as Doss. Mel Gibson directs intensely realistic and violent war scenes. While somewhat long, Hacksaw Ridge powerfully conveys the heroism of conscientious objectors like Desmond Doss and their importance to their fellow soldiers.

thismovie,butitsexecuted andputinsowell.Sometimesitevengivesusabreakform all the
violence andsadnessbeingcondemnedinthisfilm. OtheractorcreditsshouldgotoSam
Worthington,HugoWeavingandthe other actors whoplayas the othermainpart soldiers.Asthey
were all brilliantlyplayed.
The Realismof HacksawRidge isimmense,Iwouldn’tgosee thisparticularfilmif you’renotgood
withgore or you have kidsof a youngage. Asthe gore and violence featuredwithinthe filmiscrazy,
but a realisticcrazy,a greatsymbolismof war.Gibsonalsodoesa fantasticjobwiththe soundand
volume of thisfilm,especiallyinthe cinema. Iwouldrecommenddefinitelygoingtosee thisinthe
cinemaas the immersivenessandthe interactionof thismovieisgreat.Interestingenough there are
a fewscary bitsthrownintothe movie,soif you’re notverytolerantwithjumpscaresthanI’m afraid
thisisn’tforyou. There wasa fewtimeswhenIjumpedoutof my chairfrom sheerterror.
There are a fewminorflawspresentedthroughthe filmthough,forexampleIthinkthe filmdoes
drag on a tad and couldbe saidthat it’sjust a bittoo long. Anotherpotentialflaw presentedinthe
filmisthat inthe first30 minutesof the film, the filmcomesacrossa bitsoapyand slightlycheesy
especiallywhenGarfieldplaysDoss,he makesoutlike the characterwasa bitsimple,whichwe
knowisnot the case, as wheninwarhe confrontshisdecisionsinaveryintelligentway.

Garfield’sperformance isphenomenal andif you’re noteveninterestedinawar filmlike this,justgo
watch itfor himbecause it’sa verymovingandspecial performance.A thingthismovie does
perfectlyismake youas an individual feelproudandthankful tohave menlike DesmondDoss
amidstall that horror andterror. Infact there were a few people nexttome whowere crying
proudlytothisman near the endof the film, because theytrulycouldn’tbelievethisman’sstory.
My score for thisfilmhasgot to be a solid9/10 because Itjustneedstobe seen,itsunmissable.For
me,a filmlike thiscomesaroundevery5years.A filmthatcan conveyseriousness,humourand
emotional attitudesall inone warmovie hasgotto be a Oscar winningmovie andIdon’tthinkuntil
youhave seenit,youwon’tunderstandthe true meaningof the humanspirit.
