1. 5 Sacred Temples of Kuala Lumpur
Faith in the religion and God is not only the reason to approach a holy place, most of
them come as a visitor or a vacationer rather than a devotee. Just to see the
architecture of the temples, to learn the worship methods or to take a tour inside the
spiritual premises may also be some of the solid reasons to approach a religious site.
Kuala Lumpur belongs to the kind where Chinese, Buddhist and Hindu temples are
scattered every where. You can see at least one or two sacred sites in every street,
where the ‘pray to’ concepts are extremely new and worth watching out.
Batu Caves
This is a giant sacred site with a large idol of Lord Murugan, the Hindu God. The
gold-painted 42.7 metre idol is placed in between the surrounding limestone caves. To
reach the peak, one has to climb 272 man-made steps, but it’s very easy to mount up
anyhow.
2. The world-famous Hindu temple is open everyday between 7am and 7pm, and is
easily reachable from the city centre in just 15 minutes. So make your stay in the
center of the city, probably the Quality Hotel City Centre Kuala Lumpur will be the
better choice.
Sri Maha Mariamman
This is again a Hindu Temple where the main Goddess is Sri Mahamariamman. The
entrance of the temple extends vertically and is decorated with many sculptures and
concrete idols. The life of the Lord is portrayed as a story through the wall paintings
and statues. Many Hindu marriages take place here.
3. Thean Hou Temple
The architecture and the elevation is boat shaped as like any other Chinese temple.
The huge complex has many sections where you can pray, light up the incense sticks,
meditate and even know your fortune by drawing a lucky card and stick. The dragon
sculptures are found almost everywhere. You can light up a lotus candle to make your
wish come true.
The Thean Hou Temple is a landmark six-tiered Chinese temple in Kuala Lumpur. It is
located on a 1.67 acres of land atop Robson Heights along Lorong Bellamy,
overlooking Jalan Syed Putra. It was completed in 1987 and officially opened in 1989
4. Guan Di Temple
Guan Di means the God of war. This temple is close to the famous Petaling Street and
the remarked Hindu Shrine the Sri Maha Mariamman. This temple is decorated with
spiral hangings holding a card in its center. Several such spiral hangings are sequenced
both vertically and horizontally and hanged on the roof. There is a vertical metal pole
which is hard to lift, but locals believe that if you can lift it thrice your wish will come
true.
During a river cruise you will have a chance to spot the rare orangutan, the pygmy
elephant, proboscis monkeys and saltwater crocodiles. During night cruises you might
spot the leopard cat, numerous sleeping birds, wild boars, snakes and many crocodiles.
5. Wat Meh Liew Buddhist Temple
You can reach this calm temple by getting down at Titiwangsa station from the
monorail. This Buddha temple is known for great celebrations and many monks are
there ready to offer you blessings and preachings.
