The document discusses trust and distrust in relationships between signatories of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). It argues that building trust through open information exchange and mutual understanding prevents nuclear proliferation, while distrust can lead countries to develop nuclear weapons. However, Iran's pursuit of nuclear capabilities outside of NPT supervision has damaged trust with other signatories. A new agreement between Brazil, Iran and Turkey aims to restore trust by establishing cooperation and transparency, but Iran's actions will ultimately determine whether trust is rebuilt.
Transformational fandom involves reimagining or altering aspects of original texts, while affirmational fandom embraces and celebrates existing texts without significant transformation. Ronald D. Moore, creator of the Battlestar Galactica reimagining, engaged in affirmational fandom by celebrating and participating in the existing Battlestar Galactica franchise without substantially changing it. The document discusses how fandom shares similarities with religion across seven dimensions including narrative, ritual, social structure, and more, and these dimensions can vary significantly between different fandom communities.
The school celebrated 5 years of eTwinning on May 5th. Students involved in an eTwinning project prepared cakes for the birthday party. They decorated with blue and yellow for the special event and invited the headmistress as a guest. Everyone sang together and enjoyed cake to mark the occasion.
Students from middle school classes under the direction of Ewa Dutkiewicz prepared an exhibition about recycling in the school year 2009/2010. The exhibition focused on educating students about the importance of recycling and reducing waste. It highlighted various materials that can be recycled and proper recycling procedures.
The document discusses various reuse and recycling projects done by children at Chennestone school in England. It describes how the children made a water bottle tower out of old plastic bottles, held a reuse competition to see what items could be made from trash, painted used tires to use as plant pots, made Christmas tags, wrapping paper and bows out of old cards and wallpaper to raise money, sent e-cards to relatives to avoid paper waste, and wore badges to promote their Green Team.
The document provides recipes for making rose syrup and wild rose jam. The rose syrup recipe calls for boiling rose petals with water and lemon to make an infusion, which is then boiled with sugar to make a syrup. The wild rose jam recipe instructs the reader to remove stems and seeds from wild rose berries, boil the berries with wine and water, then strain and boil the soft mass with sugar to make jam. Both recipes provide instructions on bottling and storing the finished products.
The school has had an eco flag since 2007 and has a green team notice board to promote recycling. There are recycling bins for paper, cardboard, plastic, tin, and glass around the school grounds as well as battery recycling. An outside compost heap is also maintained to reduce waste.
The students at Pardilhó School in Portugal adopted an idea from another school in England to create decorative plant pots out of old tires. They painted the used tires and planted flowers and greenery in them. The school hopes to make even more tire planters in the future to beautify their campus.

Hydroelectric energy is generated by building dams that force moving water to turn machinery like turbines connected to generators, producing electricity. It is one of the oldest and most reliable renewable energy sources, but building large hydroelectric schemes has disadvantages like high costs and impacts on wildlife habitats and river ecosystems. An experiment is described where pouring water into a turbine attached to a bulb demonstrates how kinetic energy from moving water can be transformed into electrical energy powering a light.
The document discusses how certain activities have damaged the ozone layer, creating a large hole, which can increase risks of skin cancer. If not addressed, the problems with the ozone layer and risks to human health are expected to significantly worsen over time.
The document provides recipes for several types of fish that are common in Italian cuisine. It includes recipes for potassolo anchovies from Genoa, mackerel, zerro which is best preserved in a saltwater brine called "salamoia", palamita which has delicate white flesh, pagello, sugarello, and garfish. The recipes typically call for olive oil, tomatoes, garlic, lemon, herbs like parsley and oregano, and white wine. Instructions are provided for cleaning and preparing the fish along with a list of ingredients for accompanying sauces and seasonings.
This document summarizes a workshop about water that was attended by students. It discusses the chemical composition of water and how much water is available on Earth and in the human body. It also provides statistics on average daily water usage in Italy, breaking it down by specific activities like showering, washing clothes, flushing toilets, and more. Additionally, it discusses the water cycle and notes that a significant amount of "hidden water" is required to produce one kilogram of beef.
Pollution from factories, power stations and vehicles emit carbon dioxide and other gases into the air, which can cause acid rain that damages trees, buildings and kills fish. To address these issues, people should stop cutting down trees, use alternative energy sources like hydroelectricity, and recycle paper, cans and other containers to reduce pollution.
This document provides a tour of the facilities at primary school number 33 in Katowice, Poland. It describes several classrooms for subjects like IT, biology, and geography. It also mentions amenities for students like a day room for young children, a school library, a gymnasium hall, assembly hall, canteen, swimming pool, and playground. The presentation was created by Marta Kozik and Wiktoria Gajos using photos from the film "Our School".
The document discusses different aspects of the author's school including their English classroom, assembly hall, and their patron who is Stanislaw Ligon.
Agnieszka Lejkowska is a student in class 4c who is sharing photos from her school, including a photo of her classmates, a performance in the assembly hall where there are also large discoes for playing with friends, and a swimming competition called "Delfiniada" where her music group "Wiolinki" performed.
The document provides tips for living more sustainably such as turning off lights when not in use, only boiling as much water as needed, running appliances at lower temperatures, turning down the heat, unplugging devices rather than leaving them on standby, walking or cycling instead of driving, buying locally sourced food, and considering the environmental impact of flying. It also discusses how the materials used in products impact the environment and encourages choosing lighter packages to reduce transportation costs and fuel usage. Finally, it covers factors to consider for small wind farms like prevailing wind directions and using solar energy for heating homes and water.
Solar energy is a clean alternative energy source that has potential to help address increasing pollution. A photovoltaic system converts sunlight directly into electricity via solar panels, as depicted in a performance diagram. The presentation provided an overview of solar energy and photovoltaic systems.
