As an interior designer, I am constantly looking for new ways to add style and beauty to a room. While bead-board isn’t necessarily new to the design world, I feel like it’s the perfect material to instantly transform any space.
Bead-board is indeed one trend that has survived the test of time, and it is an inexpensive alternative to tile. Not only is the material durable, but it can be painted any color, which makes it a great choice for use in bathrooms or other heavily used rooms.
Here are just a few of my favorite ways that you can use beadboard in your home.

HOME
Rules of Renovation
2. Beadboard Wainscoting
• Beadboard can act as a beautiful and easy to install
wainscoting. To use beadboard as wainscoting, select
your beadboard’s height and install it so that it’s flush
with the top of your baseboards (or install it flush
with the bottom of the wall before you install the
baseboards). Then you can install your chair rail along
the top of the beadboard and add your baseboards if
you haven’t already done so. Paint all three pieces a
single color, and you’ll have a beautiful and
professional looking piece of wainscoting that will
take no time to install.
3. BEADBOARD BACKSPLASH
• Do you want an attractive backsplash
material for the kitchen that will also protect
your walls? Beadboard is the perfect option.
Beadboard has a classic look, and it can be
painted to match or complement the colors
you’ve chosen for your kitchen. Plus, it adds
texture along the wall for some visual
contrast.
4. STYLE YOUR DISHWASHER
• If your kitchen has more of a classic style, a
modern dishwasher can distract from the
rest of the room’s decor. Cutting a section of
beadboard to cover the front of the
dishwasher (keeping the buttons intact)
allows it to blend in better with the rest of
the kitchen.
5. HIDE AN OUTDATED
POPCORN CEILING
• Removing a popcorn ceiling is intimidating.
Instead, save yourself the time and
headache by covering the whole ceiling with
beadboard. This is a brilliant cheat that will
look much more pleasing than that awful
popcorn, and you won’t have to go through
the work of removing it.
6. INSTALL BEADBOARD ALONG THE
BACKS OF BUILT-IN SHELVES
• If your home has built-in shelves in the closets, hallways,
or other rooms, you may want to consider installing
beadboard along the backs and/or sides. Beadboard will
protect the walls from damage, and it will add some
extra texture to the shelves as well.
• Beadboard is incredibly versatile. It can be applied to
walls, ceilings, cabinetry, and more. A coat of paint or the
right finish can provide any room with a cottage-chic feel.
Plus, beadboard is an inexpensive option. As a side note,
did you know that you can install a full kitchen
backsplash for less than $50 by using beadboard? That
isn’t something you can accomplish with a tile
backsplash.

beadboard to add class and style to a
home? I am always on the search for
interesting ways to use beadboard in my
designs.
