Essay
Format: You will write a persuasive essay based on three sources: an article, a table or
graphic, and an audio recording. The sources may present different points of view on the
same topic.
Pace yourself: You will have 55 minutes to complete this task, broken down as follows:
 Print sources: 6 minutes to
o Read the Tema curricular (to which of the 6 AP themes does this prompt
pertain )
o Read the Tema del ensayo (the prompt)
o Read Source 1
o Study Source 2
 Up to 9 minutes to listen to the audio source (Source 3) twice
 Plan and write: 40 minutes to plan and write your persuasive essay,
addressing the Tema del ensayo (the prompt)
4-8-19: In class, you will be given +/- 9 minutes to complete the audio source (Source 3).
You will take notes in whichever fashion works best for you, focusing on the differing
emphasis for the FIRST listen vs. the SECOND listen:
 FIRST: Listen for generalities, the sequencing of ideas,
 SECOND: listen for details, places, statistics (cifras), dates, specific
types/ categories mentioned etc.
Spanish 5: you will spend 6 minutes at home tonight completing the Print
Sources (see above). Bring your notes and the beginnings of your essay outline/web to
class on Tuesday, 4-9-19, when you will spend 40 minutes writing the actual essay.
AP Lang: you will spend 6 minutes between today and Wednesday morning
completing the Print Sources (see above). Bring your notes and the beginnings of your
essay outline to class on Wednesday, 4-10-19, when you will spend 40 minutes writing
the actual essay.
Important: anyone absent from class on Monday will need to complete the 9 minutes of the audio
using the Supersite (see Calendar to access the file), as well as complete the Print Sources (see above)
BEFORE class on Tuesday/Wednesday. Anyone not prepared on Tuesday/Wednesday will still write the
essay but will be penalized by having 6 minutes less than everyone else to write. These instructions will be
posted on both the Spanish 5 and AP Lang wiki pages on Monday,4-8-19.
Anyone absent on the long day will need to schedule 40 minutes with Sra.
Chamberlain to complete the writing outside of class time. Due date: 48 hrs. within
return to school, regardless of if our class meets or not.
