Australia's Immigrants Maelee

During 1857, nearly 16,000 Chinese immigrants landed in Robe, South Australia and planned to walk across the border to the Victorian gold fields to seek their fortune, avoiding Victoria's $10 immigrant tax. They walked for weeks, setting up camps along the way and avoiding official rest stops for fear of being imprisoned as illegal immigrants. Their first boat trip attempting to cross from South Australia to Victoria sank, killing over half its passengers.

What is religion

Religion has a long history dating back to ancient mythologies and has evolved over time as people's faith and beliefs strengthened. Religions vary between cultures as some traditions are closely tied to specific beliefs. While some people are born into a religion, others choose their faith later in life. Religions aim to explain life's mysteries and provide answers to existential questions through sacred texts and worship of spiritual beings believed to have power over the world. Major world religions spread globally through immigration and now most cultures have a mix of different faiths.
