How many of you feel the daily pressure of having to get more done with less? Would you like to learn three simple techniques that will help you achieve maximum productivity and give you some well-needed breathing room?
Today I’m going to teach you three things that, when put together in a particular way, will have you outproducing your peers within a week. Are you ready?
The first thing I need to know is how many of you can count to three. Let’s do it together 1…2…3. Great now we’re going to use the alphabet – but only the first 3 letters, again, let’s do it together A…B…C Outstanding!
There’s only one more thing we need to make sure you can do [PowerPoint Slide] That’s being able to draw a square divided into four parts.
There are three words you will use repeatedly in this system; Important, Urgent and Priority. [Definitions]
In real life, how would you define the difference between Important and Urgent? A report due in two weeks is important, but it doesn’t have a NOW! Imperative, so it isn’t urgent.
A ringing phone on the other hand is both important – because it’s difficult to ignore – and it has a sense of NOW! Imperative – or Urgency. If you don’t answer it now, you’ll miss the call. Of course we’re assuming you’re not screening your calls!
First responders used to be taught to prioritize– A-B-C; Airway, Bleeding, Circulation – a triage technique for victims of accident, illness or violence. A BC because it denoted what was more important in order. Likewise, labeling your responsibilities or priorities in the same manner will serve to enhance your effectiveness, however each of you defines it. You’re working on your ability to get stuff done here. What’s most important to your success? That’s an A. Something you can do effectively later, that’s a B, things you are willing to sacrifice for greater productivity are your C’s.
