Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund
Back Ground of the Project
A village of about 800 Peoples Dhok Tabarak is located on Lehtrar Road only 25 Km from the Federal
Secretriat .Area Rainfed agrioculture constituted its only economic base , which was severly hitted by
persistant drought drinking water scarce women brings from distant places . House hold latrines were non
existant , street unpaved , skin diseases malaria prevailed. No health or education facilities available ,
iodine deficiency was there.
The Pilot Project
With the active participation of community a project was initiated PPAF provided Rs 3.11 million ,
community matched Rs 0.84 million . Major Physical Infrastructure components include safe drinking
water supply, house hold latrines , street surfacing, waste water disposal , microcredit increased to 34
enterpeneurs Community School with 75 Students. A basic health unit has been established in the
adjacent village which provided health facilities
Impact of the Pilot Project
Living environment improved due to establishment of infrastructure
Health and education facilities improved.
Up scaling to PPAF II
On the pattern of the Pilot Project the PPAF II(2004-2011) initiated for 300 areas in Country
Process
The PPAF has a democratic and transparent governance structure, which best assures an independent,
non-political organization that is efficiently and effectively managed. The Articles of Association
prescribe a three-tier governance structure, comprising a General Body, a Board of Directors and a
management team headed by the Chief Executive. Significant features of the governance structure are its
system of checks and balances and the predominant role given to members of the civil society. The

  • 1. 1 A critical analysis ofcurrent government plans and policies related to rural development Current Government Projects Lecture - 28 Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund Back Ground of the Project A village of about 800 Peoples Dhok Tabarak is located on Lehtrar Road only 25 Km from the Federal Secretriat .Area Rainfed agrioculture constituted its only economic base , which was severly hitted by persistant drought drinking water scarce women brings from distant places . House hold latrines were non existant , street unpaved , skin diseases malaria prevailed. No health or education facilities available , iodine deficiency was there. The Pilot Project With the active participation of community a project was initiated PPAF provided Rs 3.11 million , community matched Rs 0.84 million . Major Physical Infrastructure components include safe drinking water supply, house hold latrines , street surfacing, waste water disposal , microcredit increased to 34 enterpeneurs Community School with 75 Students. A basic health unit has been established in the adjacent village which provided health facilities Impact of the Pilot Project Living environment improved due to establishment of infrastructure Health and education facilities improved. Up scaling to PPAF II On the pattern of the Pilot Project the PPAF II(2004-2011) initiated for 300 areas in Country Process The PPAF has a democratic and transparent governance structure, which best assures an independent, non-political organization that is efficiently and effectively managed. The Articles of Association prescribe a three-tier governance structure, comprising a General Body, a Board of Directors and a management team headed by the Chief Executive. Significant features of the governance structure are its system of checks and balances and the predominant role given to members of the civil society.
