A study investigated the presence of the xenotropic murine leukemia virus-related virus (XMRV) in UK patients with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), following reports of its detection in US patients. The study involved PCR screening of blood samples from 186 CFS patients, but found no evidence of XMRV or related sequences. Results suggest that population differences may affect the association between XMRV and CFS, indicating a lack of support for XMRV as a contributing factor to the pathogenesis of CFS in the UK.
