The Government of Tuzla Canton will support development projects of GIKIL. GIKIL management met with the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining of Tuzla Canton to discuss expanding GIKIL's product range and increasing electricity production. GIKIL plans to invest around $130 million USD in new projects such as producing foundry coke and increasing electricity production. The Government of Tuzla Canton will provide a letter of support for these projects which are expected to create new jobs.

As highlighted at the meeting, due to stabilization of its financial results, GIKIL has started with implementation of a number of new projects, such as start with the production of the foundry coke, increase in electricity production from the current 10 to about 30 megawatts and a variety of types of projects with aim to improve environmental standards that will be harmonized with European Union norms. "We expect that investments in these development projects will be about 130 million U.S. dollars, for which the EBRD has given its consent in principle“ said Managing Director of GIKIL Guntupalli Jagannadham and added that EBRD has already received the positive report from its team of experts that have been in GIKIL. “On the meeting was emphasized necessity of the support of Government of Tuzla Canton and the competent Ministry for the implementation of these projects that will help GIKIL and EBRD to reserve funds for the needs of Global Ispat Koksna Industrija Lukavac. Lukavac i snažniji ulazak u oblast energetike i proizvodnje električne energije bila je tema sastanka Uprave ovog privrednog subjekta na čelu sa Generalnim direktorom Guntupalli Jagannadham-om i ministrom industrije energetike i rudarstva Tuzlanskog kantona prof. dr. Željkom Knežičekom u petak 14. oktobra. Kako je istaknuto na sastanku, u cilju stabilizacije finansijskih rezultata GIKIL je započeo aktivnosti na realizaciji niza novih projekata od čega se izdvajaju početak proizvodnje livačkog koksa, povećanje proizvodnje električne energije sa trenutnih 10 na oko 30 megavata, kao i niz projekata za poboljšanje ekoloških standarda koji će biti usklađeni sa normama Evropske unije. „Očekujemo da će ulaganja u ove razvojne projekte iznositi oko 130 miliona američkih dolara, za koje je EBRD načelno dao svoj pristanak“ rekao je generalni direktor GIKIL-a Guntupalli Jagannadham i dodao da je EBRD, od tima stručnjaka koje je poslao u GIKIL, već dobio vrlo pozitivan izvještaj. Na sastanku je akcentirana neophodnost podrške Vlade Tuzlanskog kantona i resornog ministarstva realizaciji ovih projekata, koja će pomoći GIKIL-u i EBRD-u da se u fondu rezerviraju sredstva za potrebe Global Ispat koksne industrije iz Lukavca. „Mi ćemo u Ministarstvu pripremiti i Vladi Tuzlanskog kantona predložiti pismo podrške za realizaciju ovih projekata, jer razvoj GIKIL-a podrazumijeva između ostalog i dodatna upošljavanja, kako direktno u ovoj kompaniji, tako i indirektno u drugim kompanijama koje kooperatnski rade uz GIKIL, a što je jedan od prioriteta u radu cjelokupne Vlade Tuzlanskog kantona“ istakao je ministar Knežiček, te dodao da će pismo u što kraćem roku biti dalje proslijeđeno Premijeru Federacije Bosne i Hercegovine, kao i resornim federalnim ministrima energije, rudarstva i industrije, te prometa i komunikacija. Današnji sastanak učesnici su iskoristili i za kratke razgovore o saradnji između GIKIL-a i Koksno hemijskog kombinata iz Lukavca čiji je većinski vlasnik Vlada Tuzlanskog kantona, te prijevozu koji za potrebe GIKIL-a obavljaju Željeznice Federacije BiH.
