against 24 officials of Pokhara University, including the Vice-Chancellor, at the Special Court
and sought a fine of Rs 22.41 million.
CIAA Spokesperson Shreedhar Sapkota said the anti-graft body had registered chargesheet at the
special court against VC Khagendra Prasad Bhattarai, Ex-Vice-Chancellor Keshar Jung Baral,
Registrar Man Bahadur KC, among others, for their involvement in graft.
The CIAA investigation found irregularities in issuing licence to colleges, illegal donation
distribution and financial amenities to employees in breach of rules and regulations.
The arrested PU officials have been accused of misappropriating and embezzling varsity fund
under various headings. The registered chargesheet states that PU staffers had embezzled Rs
22.41 million. Among them, Vice-chancellor Bhattarai alone had embezzled Rs 12.36 million,
according to the chargesheet filed by CIAA.
Of the 36 officials called for recording statements, CIAA arrested 23. One of the accused in the
graft, engineer Suresh Baral has been absconding.
A team led by Inspector Subash Pandit deployed from CIAA central office had been
investigating different cases of irregularities at the varsity for two-and-a-half months.
