1) The document reports on sowing progress of Rabi (winter) oilseed crops in India for the 2017-18 season as of November 23, 2017 compared to the previous year. 2) Rapeseed and mustard saw 6.49 lakh hectares less area sown this year compared to the previous year. However, groundnut, sunflower, sesamum and linseed saw higher sowing areas. 3) The data is broken down by state, showing the areas sown of different oilseed crops in each state for the current and previous years. Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh had the largest rapeseed and mustard sowing areas.

Crop-wise Brief:
Rapeseed & Mustard : Area coverage during Rabi 2017-18 is lower by 6.49 lakh ha compared to
corresponding period of Rabi 2016-17.
Groundnut : Area coverage during Rabi 2017-18 is higher by 0.12 lakh ha compared to corresponding
period of Rabi 2016-17.
Safflower : Area coverage during Rabi 2017-18 is lower by 0.04 lakh ha compared to corresponding
period of Rabi 2016-17.
Sunflower : Area coverage during Rabi 2017-18 is higher by 0.17 lakh ha compared to corresponding
period of Rabi 2016-17.
Sesamum : Area coverage during Rabi 2017-18 is higher by 0.06 lakh ha compared to corresponding
period of Rabi 2016-17.
Linseed : Area coverage during Rabi 2017-18 is higher by 0.34 lakh ha compared to corresponding
period of Rabi 2016-17.
