7. GP Partnership Review – 15th Jan 2019
The strengths of general practice include:
• organising care based on a registered list, with the vast majority of
the population registered with a practice;
• providing care from cradle to grave;
• having a holistic approach to care, looking after the whole person and
not simply focusing on one disease or a single episode of care;
• knowing more than one generation in a family, having a lifelong
medical record;
• providing continuity of care where needed;
• managing the undifferentiated presentation of symptoms.

8. • Continuity of care is beneficial for all patients
• GP Partnership model offers opportunity to innovate and
improve
• Partnership remains an efficient and effective model for
general practice if properly funded and supported
• There is a crisis in General Practice
• Expand GP training places and ensure they are spread
more equitably
• Standardise training for reception staff
• Continuity of care is one of the most important goals
• There is no policy to end the GP partnership model
• No mention of patient online services
• No mention of health literacy
• No mention of “partnership working”
11. NHS England’s guidance on “Accelerating Citizen Access
to GP Data” is causing significant concerns for GP
practices due to factual, contractual, technical, legal,
financial, clinical, ethical and patient issues leading to
potential or real harm for patient care. This could put
more pressure on General Practice and the wider
NHS. NHS England’s insistence that they will direct
system suppliers to switch on prospective access
without adequate safeguards in place could bring the
whole profession into disrepute and risk the doctor-
patient relationship that is the bedrock of what we do.

25. What can we do?
• Do not give up – it is not (yet) a lost cause
• Look after yourself – there is a long and windy journey ahead
• “Necessity is the mother of inventions”
• “The future is already here, it is just not evenly distributed” William Gibson
• Measure what you can improve but not all things can be measured
• The Secret: Ask, Believe, Receive
• Make it fun, easy & together
• Want to be a Partner?
26. 3 point plan
• Inspire patients, clinicians and managers to build trust, collaborate,
pledge
• Believe you can do this NOW, not some time later
• Feel you have already achieved because the steps necessary are
already around YOU
Become the empowered and the empowerer!
The GP Partnership is not dead!
