USA’s Mighty Cyclones are crowned World Champions of Fantasy Football
WORLD BOWL VI
112 Lonely Star @ #1 Mighty Cyclones 136
SETTING THE SCENE
It is official, NFL fans, the USA’s MIGHTY CYCLONES are crowned this year’s World Champions of Fantasy Football! The Mighty
Cyclones’ 136-112 come-from-behind victory over Mexico’s LONELY STAR in World Bowl VI proved to be just as unusual as 2020,
itself!
World Bowl VI is one for the ages. Even though the game was decided by 24 points, it certainly was much closer than what the final
score indicates. Throughout the process, six times both teams were given a 50-50 chance of winning. Nine times the odds shifted in
favor of one side over the other. Ultimately, it would come down to one player in the final game of the final week of the fantasy football
season to decide the outcome.
Going into last Sunday’s games, three of the Mighty Cyclones’ starters were already off the board, with Drew Brees, Leonard Fournette
and the Cardinals’ defense/special teams having competed in Friday’s and Saturday’s games. Together, they mustered just 34 points,
far less than their projected 48. With just six players remaining, the probability of pulling out the victory seemed impossible for the
2. Mighty Cyclones. Odds of them launching a comeback win ranged from 32% to even lower at 23%. Lonely Star had 8 of their 9 players
left to compete, with the exception being Buccaneers WR Antonio Brown, who surpassed his projected 12 points with his 13-point, 1 TD
performance over the Atlanta Falcons. The Mighty Cyclones cut Brown from their roster just days before.
From the start, it seemed as though just about everything the Mighty Cyclones and team owner Brian Slack tried, failed; thus, keeping
victory within Lonely Star’s sight. Time after time, the Mighty Cyclones narrowed the gap only to have Lonely Star rip off a series of
points, each time furthering the divide.
Entering the Monday Night matchup between Buffalo and New England, Lonely Star had a 112-95 lead. In addition, in event the game
ended as a tie, Lonely Star had the tie-breaker advantage with their reserves outscoring the Mighty Cyclones’ backups 85-79. For the
Mighty Cyclones, everything rested on Stefon Diggs’ shoulders. Diggs had to score 18 points to send the Mighty Cyclones over the top.
Failure was not an option. Diggs was projected to score 19 points, but the way things were going, that seemed like a pipe dream. After
the Patriots limited Diggs to just 3 points in the first 26 minutes of the first half, all hope seemed lost. The Mighty Cyclones had to face
the harsh reality that, despite all the success they enjoyed during the 2020 campaign leading up to that particular moment, everything
was about to come to a gut-wrenching end.
Yet, as the adage goes, it ain’t over ‘till the fat lady sings. Apparently, the fat lady was busy feeding her pie-hole.
What happened next was every fantasy football team owner’s dream or nightmare, depending on which of the receiving end you’re on.
With four minutes remaining before halftime, Bill’s QB Josh Allen connected with Diggs on a crossing route which quickly turned into a
50-yard footrace to the end zone. That catch racked up 12 points, alone, narrowing Lonely Star’s lead to a mere 2-point advantage. Yet,
that was just the beginning. Diggs would go on to score two more touchdowns, one for 18 yards early in the 3rd quarter and 8 yards
1:30 into the 4th quarter. Diggs would finish with 9 catches, 145 yards, 3 TDs, and 41 fantasy points. To view Stefon Diggs’ amazing
highlights, click https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4U2r6rMOcU.
After five years of unsuccessfully bringing the championship title to the United States, finally they were redeemed. For Mexico, this was
their second attempt, but they will have to wait another year to get their next shot. The United States joins Canada, China, and the
United Kingdom as the only nations who have won a World Bowl. Australia, Mexico and Russia are aiming for their first.
(Brian’s statement) “I’d like to begin by saying thank you to the Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Ghost for making the Mighty
Cyclones World Champions of Fantasy Football as part of my destiny. Clearly this was the biggest game the Mighty Cyclones and
Lonely Star have ever competed in since joining the IFFL. Personally, this was certainly the most stressful for me. I feel like I aged ten
years because of it. I commend Lonely Star team owner Rene Chavez. His team propelled from last place in 2019 to making it all the
way to the World Bowl in 2020. Job well done. I would like to also thank the league’s team owners for participating, our sponsors for
their support, and select media for sharing the IFFL with their nations’ sports fans. I’d like to also thank all of my critics who laughed at
the Mighty Cyclones’ draft choices, implying we did not stand any chance of assembling a winning season, much less winning it all.
Finally, this award is dedicated to President Donald Trump. Say what you will about him, but several years from now, President Trump
will be remembered for his determination to have a vaccine created in record time against this dreaded Covid19 virus. Subsequently,
innumerable lives will be spared.”
