This document summarizes Mike Gangler's presentation on Secure-24's project to upgrade over 52 Oracle databases from 11.2.0.2 to 12.2 on an Oracle Private Cloud Appliance. The key challenges included network latency, large database sizes, and application dependencies. Standby databases were primarily used to migrate the data and upgrade the databases in a staged approach over weekends with minimal downtime. Common errors around APEX, character sets, and passwords were addressed. Lessons learned focused on thorough planning, testing, and validation of the upgrade process.

Putting the Ops in DataOps: Orchestrate the Flow of Data Across Data PipelinesDATAVERSITY
With the aid of any number of data management and processing tools, data flows through multiple on-prem and cloud storage locations before it’s delivered to business users. As a result, IT teams — including IT Ops, DataOps, and DevOps — are often overwhelmed by the complexity of creating a reliable data pipeline that includes the automation and observability they require.
The answer to this widespread problem is a centralized data pipeline orchestration solution.
Join Stonebranch’s Scott Davis, Global Vice President and Ravi Murugesan, Sr. Solution Engineer to learn how DataOps teams orchestrate their end-to-end data pipelines with a platform approach to managing automation.
Key Learnings:
- Discover how to orchestrate data pipelines across a hybrid IT environment (on-prem and cloud)
- Find out how DataOps teams are empowered with event-based triggers for real-time data flow
- See examples of reports, dashboards, and proactive alerts designed to help you reliably keep data flowing through your business — with the observability you require
- Discover how to replace clunky legacy approaches to streaming data in a multi-cloud environment
- See what’s possible with the Stonebranch Universal Automation Center (UAC)

Big Data/Cloudera from Excelerate SystemsDavid Bennett
Learn how Big Data solutions from Excelerate Systems are driving nextgen DataWarehouse optimization.... In other words - if you have BIG data - come and talk to us
Today the terms "Big Data" and "Internet of Things" draw a lot of attention, but behind the hype there's a simple story. For decades, companies have been making business decisions based on traditional "enterprise data". Beyond that critical data, however, is a potential treasure trove of additional data: weblogs, social media, email, sensors, photographs and much more that can be mined for useful information. More and more organizations are therefore looking to include non-traditional yet potentially very valuable data with their traditional enterprise data in their business intelligence analysis.
As the world's most popular open source database, and the leading open source database for Web-based and Cloud-based applications, MySQL is a key component of numerous big data platforms. This presentation explores how you can unlock extremely valuable insights using MySQL with the Hadoop platform.
You’ve successfully deployed Hadoop, but are you taking advantage of all of Hadoop’s features to operate a stable and effective cluster? In the first part of the talk, we will cover issues that have been seen over the last two years on hundreds of production clusters with detailed breakdown covering the number of occurrences, severity, and root cause. We will cover best practices and many new tools and features in Hadoop added over the last year to help system administrators monitor, diagnose and address such incidents.
The second part of our talk discusses new features for making daily operations easier. This includes features such as ACLs for simplified permission control, snapshots for data protection and more. We will also cover tuning configuration and features that improve cluster utilization, such as short-circuit reads and datanode caching.

Big data is one of the biggest buzzwords in today's market. Terms such as Hadoop, HDFS, YARN, Sqoop, and non-structured data have been scaring DBAs since 2010, but where does the DBA team really fit in?
In this session, we will discuss everything database administrators and database developers need to know about big data. We will demystify the Hadoop ecosystem and explore the different components. We will learn how HDFS and MapReduce are changing the data world and where traditional databases fit into the grand scheme of things. We will also talk about why DBAs are the perfect candidates to transition into big data and Hadoop professionals and experts.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
