Transport for London: Using data to keep London movingWSO2
This talk was presented by Sriskandarajah Suhothayan (WSO2) and Roland Major (Transport for London) at the Strata Data Conference in London, May 23 2017.
Transport for London (TfL) uses a wide range of data for operational purposes, but the underlying data is typically held in multiple disconnected systems. Freedom of Information requests have helped prove the value of sharing this data. TfL is embarking on a journey to make more of this data open and available in real time.
TfL and WSO2 have been working together on broader integration projects. Roland Major and Sriskandarajah Suhothayan share the evolving big data and IoT architectures and services TfL is building to pull together these diverse datasets to better support operational teams and accelerate the identification and classification of disruption to improve response times for incidents. In particular, they explore WSO2’s solution, which emerged from the Data in Motion hackathon organized by TfL, AWS, and Geovation. The solution innovates TfL’s heterogeneous data sources through the combination of the TfL Unified API and its operational data sources, including traffic sensor, air quality, and passenger flow data, to provide better travel time and transit suggestions for Londoners and tourists using the WSO2 Data Analytics Server, WSO2 Complex Event Processor, and WSO2 API Manager, bringing together IoT and big data techniques to feed a real-time dashboard of current and predicted transport network status.
Presentation on missed bin reports by Alex Stone, Business Analyst at Guildford Borough Council. Presented at the Waste Services Discovery Day in London on 4th October 2014.
[WSO2 Summit APAC 2020] The Integrated API Supply ChainWSO2
APIs are the products of the 21st century. As we build out API systems, we find that we are constantly learning from product journeys. We propose a new kind of supply chain - the Integrated API Supply Chain (IASC) - which is needed by any organization looking to create and monetize API products, either directly or indirectly.
In this deck, Shankar will outline our vision of the IASC, identify five key patterns for success, and give a blueprint for creating a digital business based on API products.

OSGi Community Event 2014
Abstract:
At the OSGi Community Event 2014 the OSGi Alliance invited you to visit our OSGi IoT stand in the Eclipse IoT playground where we showed a demo of a wind farm using Raspberry Pi’s and an OSGi Cloud plus OSGi based SaaS. People who brought along their Raspberry Pi (B or B+) to the stand had the opportunity to join the demo and turn their Raspberry Pi's into a ‘virtual’ windmill.
We hosted a OSGi Extended Session to explore this demo and launch a hackathon competition. Attendees participated in the OSGi IoT demo, using a Raspberry Pi. Each of them received a microSD card and adapter, kindly contributed by the SD Association (along with SanDisk and Cardwave).
The microSD card included the bootstrap software for each attendee to participate in the demo. After becoming an OSGi-enabled device the Raspberry Pi discovered the OSGi based cloud platform, Paremus Service Fabric, where ProSyst mPRM and a MQTT server were running. A Bitreactive wind farm application was dynamically installed on the OSGi enabled Raspberry Pi from the mPRM in the Cloud. Once installed the Raspberry Pi automatically joined our ‘virtual’ wind farm demo using MQTT.
Having seen the wind farm demo the attendees were given the opportunity to take part in a hackathon to develop new applications to be submitted by close of play the next day. There was a great competition between attendees to develop the best application and win a brand new devolo Home Control starter kit. The winner of the hackathon was Tobiasz Dworak, System and Software Architect at the Research & Engineering Center Sp.z o.o.
The OSGi IoT demo will be reused and extended for future events to include other products and additional applications. Please send us an email if you would like to get involved.

The EC made, and is making, a strong bet on FIWARE
Mrs. Neelie Kroes launched FIWARE LAB at Campus Party Europe in
London (Sept 2013 - full speech here)
• “FI-WARE is one way we are levelling a playing field: a project to make innovative
technologies available for all.”
• “Smart cities are a great example … They create platforms, and use them, making
open data and applications available – to citizens, to developers, to innovators, to
come up with yet more ideas … and this is where initiatives like the FI-LAB come
in. Led by industry, this is a major investment in generic technology.”
She also made a reference to FIWARE Lab at the launch of the EIP on
Smart Cities and Communities (Sept 2013 - full speech here)
• “Just earlier this week I launched the Future Internet lab … That's something that
you can turn into real results, real jobs, and real innovation. European platforms
helping European innovation in European cities.”
