Mile Future Of Executive Development At The Muslim And Arab Worldmilemadinah
This presentation highlights the immense leadership deficit that our region suffers from. It also demonstrates how our educational and training institutions, both at corporate and government levels, fall short in catering for the enormous leadership development requirements in the region. The presentation sheds the light on a new strategic initiative to establish a world-class executive and leadership development institution which aims at bridging this gap. The initiative aims at building local intellectual capital and is based on a sustainable business model that ensures sustainability and provision of high quality, affordable and relevant life-long development opportunities to our future business leaders. The Madinah Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship (MILE) was initiated as one of Savola Group’s CSR programs. MILE is a non-profit organization and will be established at the heart of the Arab and Muslim World at the Madinah Knowledge Economic City. MILE’s first pilot program which attracted more than 150 senior executives from 16 countries has provided a strong evidence of the viability of the proposed model.

3. MESSAGE FROM OUR BOARD CHAIR
Welcome to the 19th annual ICD Fellowship Awards Gala.
Tonight we are honouring Edward Barrett, Robert Prichard,
Mac Van Wielingen and Phyllis Yaffe as the newest recipients of the
2016 ICD Fellowship Award.
We welcome them to their new community of ICD Fellows,
a community that shares a strong belief in the importance of
leadership and board governance as a foundation for excellent
organizational performance.
The ICD Fellowship Award is the highest distinction for
corporate directors in Canada. Since 1997, the ICD has bestowed
the prestigious F.ICD designation on 77 individuals from across
the country.
Ian Bourne chaired the selection committee that embraced the
challenge of selecting tonight’s honourees from among many
deserving candidates. He and his committee - composed of
Françoise Bertrand, Beverley Briscoe, Harold McKay, Kate
Stevenson and John Thompson - deserve our sincere gratitude for
the care and objectivity with which they conducted the selection
process as well as for the time they each devoted to the task.
The ICD extends its sincere thanks to our sponsors, who not only
provide financial support, but on occasion also partner with us
to generate ideas and promote excellence among the director
community and its leadership.
Enjoy the celebrations.
MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO
On behalf of the Institute of Corporate Directors, I am delighted to
welcome you to the 19th annual ICD Fellowship Awards Gala.
In honouring our four new Fellows tonight, we are reminded
that Canada’s director community is rich in both leadership
talent and imparted wisdom. Edward Barrett, Robert Prichard,
Mac Van Wielingen and Phyllis Yaffe represent the highest standard of
excellence in directorship as our country faces the challenges thrown
at it in the form of globalization, disruptive technology, activism,
regulation and whatever new tests may lie around the corner.
Tonight we enjoy record attendance for the annual gala, which reflects
the growing appreciation of good governance and for the performance
of Canadian boards and is indicative of the strong following the ICD
enjoys in Alberta. This evening’s celebrations owe much to the strong
execution of the Calgary chapter, its executive committee, advisory
committee and its volunteers, all under the fine leadership of chair
Art Korpach. I would also like to thank our sponsors whose support
has made today’s events possible.
I extend my sincerest congratulations to this year’s recipients, who
join an illustrious group of directors that exemplify leadership and
distinction in corporate governance. Our mission at the ICD, to foster
excellence in directors, boards and businesses, is greatly assisted by
your own prominent examples.
This gala, and other ICD events throughout the year, offer our
members an opportunity to contribute to, and benefit from, the
shared wisdom of the country’s director community.
Thank you for celebrating excellence in governance with us tonight.
Welcome
