Remember!! “To be the best, you need to be a cut above the rest”.
Swimming safety
It is summertime in Mauritius and its prime time for ample amounts of
sunblock and swimming, no matter if it’s in a swimming pool or at the
beach. There are important differences between beach swimming and
pool swimming that could make a huge difference in your safety. As
you prepare for fun in the sun, review these important differences so
you can make the best decisions for your safety.
 Don’t swim under the influence of alcohol or drugs
 Don’t jump in without knowing depth of water
 Find out about the swimming place
 Before you get into the water, make sure you know where you are
going to get out
 Avoid leaving electrical appliances in around the pool which
could be hazardous
 Swim close to the shore
 Swim with someone else
 Start off swimming modest distances and then build up
 Beach swimming involves open water and strong tides
 Only swim in lifeguard-protected areas and designated as swim-
ming areas
 Obey all rules and instructions from lifeguards
 The weather can change from calm to ferocious in a matter of
minutes, it’s important to stay alert and keep up with the latest
weather conditions in the area
 Pay attention to warning flags and ask a lifeguard about current
water conditions and potential hazards
