Winners
William Fay DDS
Introduction
 William Fay, DDS, is an orthodontist practicing in
southern San Francisco. He also maintains a second
office in American Canyon. When he is not diagnosing
and treating patients, William Fay, DDS, spends some of
his time being involved with industry organizations like
the American Association of Orthodontics.
The American Association of Orthodontics (AAO) 2016
Annual Session was held at the Orange County
Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. Over the course
of the meeting a number of AAO awards were distributed,
such as the Milo Hellman Research Award, the Harry
Sicher Research Award, and the Thomas M. Graber
Awards of Special Merit. Award winners included Britney
Bare, DMD, MS, of Texas A&M University Baylor College
of Dentistry.
American Association of Orthodontics
 The doctor, winner of the Milo Hellman Award, performed
a randomized split mouth experiment designed to identify
the impact of bone grafting in conjunction with
corticotomies and buccal tooth movements.
The Harry Sicher Research Award, meanwhile, went to
the University of Michigan’s John M. DuRussel, DDS,
MS, who performed research into the relationship
between craniosynostosis and facial abnormalities as
related to infantile hypophosphatasia. Winners of the
Thomas M. Graber Awards of Special Merit included J.
Christian Francis, DDS, MS, from the University of
Kentucky, Kelly Martinez Owen, DDS, MS, of Texas A&M
University Baylor College of Dentistry, and the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Heather M. Hendricks,
DDS, MS.
