4. Cooperation with India
POMACEA - Affordable technology for
mitigation of membrane (bio)fouling through
oPtimizatiOn of pre-treatMent And ClEAnIng
methods
The aim of the project is to find an optimal
technology and operation mode for effective
membrane performance and longevity.
The resulting approach will be tested in a case
study carried out in India.

Experience
Riga Technical University is the second largest institution of higher education in Latvia (on average 15,000 students), offering an advanced study program in all major fields. Department of Water Technology and Engineering (DWET) belongs to the Institute of Heat, Gas and Water Technologies which is one of five education and research units within the Faculty of Civil Engineering at RTU and the largest educational and research institution in the area of heat, gas and water technologies in Latvia.
The scientific team (4 senior researchers with a background in microbiology, chemistry and environmental engineering, 7 PhD students, several technicians) of Professor Talis Juhna has research and practical experience in fields of drinking water quality aspects (natural and artificial groundwaters, surface waters), distribution and quality changes in networks, wastewater treatment technologies.
Biobutanol prototipe
Biogas prototipe
Mobile biofilter for groundwater treatment
Electrocoagulation-flotation prototipe for waste water treatment
company "Conelum Biotech" was created, which develops and provides rapid molecular methods for food and beverage producers
Quality of waters, climate and human action influence on this has been object of several international projects in which members of this project team participated, for example, EU 5th Framework Programme “Surveillance and control of microbiological stability in drinking water distribution networks” (SAFER), FP6 “Technology enabled universal access to safe water” (TECHNEAU) and also FP7 Project „Security and decontamination of drinking water distribution systems following a deliberate contamination”(SECUREAU)”.
