Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

으로 뒤갈아 엎은 덕에 기사회생으로 살아남아 탈출하면서부터 겪게 되는 모
험의 이야기이며 개인이 세계를 위해서 일종의 ‘악’을 물리치는 영웅의
이야기.

3. 주인공[도바킨]
• 엘더스크롤에 등장하는 주인공이자 최후의 드래곤본.
남들과 다르게 선천적으
로 용들의 언어인 용언을
매우 쉽게 사용할수있는
신비한 능력을 가진채로
태어났다.
영웅신화에 나오는 가장
기본적인 레파토리.
가족의 유무와 나이도
알려진게 거의 없는 수수
께기의 인물이고 영웅
이야기의 주인공에대한
약간의 신비주의를 담고
있다.
4. 영웅의 12단계 정리
• 1.일상세계
-스카이림 국경을 불법적으로 넘어가려다가 잡힌 주인공은 헬겐으로 이송되
어
처형될 위기에 처한다,
그러나 허무하기 처형당하기 직전 거대하고 사악한 드래곤 알두인이 헤겐을
습
셕한 덕분에 혼란을 틈 타 탈출에 성공한다.
5. 2.모험의 소명
• 탈출 후 리버우드를 거쳐 스카이림의 중심지인 화이트런
에 도착하고 그곳에등장하는 용을 무찌르면서부터 자신
이 드래곤본(도바킨)이라는 것을 깨닫는다.
6. 3.소명의 거부
• 자신이 드래곤본이라는 것을 알았지만 드래곤본
으로 태어난것은 사악한 드래곤 알두인을 막아
낼 유일한 인간이자 운명이고 숙명이기 때문에
자신의 소명을 거부하지 않는다.
7. 4.정신적 스승
• 그 후 드래곤본으로서 능력을 각성하여 만인에게 존경받는 스카이림의 현
자들 그레이비어즈 의 부름을 받아 고대의 영웅들이 일찍이 올랐던 하이흐로
스가르의 7000계단을 타고 올라가 그들에게 드래곤본으로서의 자질을 시험
받는다. 그리고 이 과정에서 블레이드와 만나게된다.
8. 5.첫 관문의 통과
• 회색현자들의 용언 수업이 끝나고 마지막 관문인 유르겐 윈터콜드
의
나팔을 입수하는 임무로서 주인공은 나팔을 찾기위해 회색현자들이
알려준 유적지로 발걸음을 옮긴다.
수많은 드로거들을 해치우고 나팔이 있는곳으로 갔지만 나팔이 있
어
야 할곳에는 쪽지만 덩그러니 놓여져있었다.
9. 6.협력자와 적대자
• 쪽지에 쓰여진대로 리버우드의 여관에서 다락방을 빌린 후 적인지
아군이지 모를 사람을 기달리게된다.
• 잠시후 쪽지의 주인은 모습을 들어냈고 그녀는 자신이 블레이드의
마지막 생존자라 자칭한다.
• 그녀는 현재 알두인이 용의 무덤에서 용들을 부활시키고 다닌다는
정보를 입수했고 지도를 보여주며 그녀와 주인공은 용의 무덤으로
달려가는데 그 곳에서 주인공과 알두인이 재회한다.
10. 7.동굴 가장깊은곳으로의 접근
• 그리고 그들의 도움으로 세상을 멸망시키기위해 다시 나타난 드래곤알두인을 해치울 수 있는 방
법을 찾아 백방으로 뛰어다니게된다.
탈모어 대사관에 잠입해 정보를 캐고 블레이드를 도와 고대 블레이드의 은신처인 스카이헤븐 사월
을 찾아내어 다시금 블레이드를 부흥하게 하는 발판을 마련한다.
그리고 드래곤본은 블레이드에게 일찍이 알두인을 시공 저편으로 쫒아보냈던 포효의 존재를 알게되
고 이를 찾기 위해 그레이비어즈의 수장이자 옛 알두인의 오른팔이기도 했던 드래곤 파르쑤르낙스
와 만난다. 파르쑤르낙스에게 알두인을 해치울 수 있는 포효를 묻자 그는 그 당시의 기록이 담긴 엘
더스크롤을 찾아 알두인이 쓰러졌던 장소인 세상 의 목젖에서 그것을 읽으라는 조언을 한다.
결국 주인공을 엘더스크롤를 찾기위해 가장 깊은곳인 블랙리치를 찾아 모험을 떠난다.
11. 8.시련
엘더스크롤을 찾기위해 드워븐 유적지로 들어간 주인공은 아직도 가동중인 드워븐 기계
들과 타락한 팔머들을 상대해가며 유적 깊숙한곳으로 점점 들어가게 되고 조력자중 한
명인
미친 박사가 준 동그란 조율체가 열쇠임을 깨닫고 조율체와 합쳐지는 곳에 조율체를 끼
워
넣게 된다.
그리고 그곳에는 블랙리치로 통하는 숨겨진 문이 발견되고 고생과 시련 끝에 주인공은
블랙리치에 발을 딛을수있게되었다.
12. 9.보상.
• 결국 주인공은 엘더스크롤을 찾아내어 과거시대, 알두인을 무찔렀던 3명의
영웅의 이야기를 보게되고, 알두인을 무찌를 수 있는, 용을 땅으로 떨어뜨
리게 하는 포효를 알게된다. 그리고 세상의 목젖에 나타난 알두인과 전투를
벌인다.
강력한 드래곤본의 힘에 의해 패배한 알두인은 자신의 은거지로 도망친다.
알 두인이 간 곳을 찾아내려면 그의 측근 중 하나를 심문해야 하는 사실을
전해듣고, 화이트런의 드래곤스리치에 드래곤을 유인해 심문하기로 결심한다.
13. 10.귀환의 길
• 화이트런의 영주, 위대한 발그루프에게 이 사실을 전하자 우선 제국과 스톰
클록간의 내전을 해결하라는 말을 한다.도바킨은 그레이비어즈의 도움으로
스카이림의 권력자들을 하이 흐로스가로 소집해 장시간의 협상을 통해 내
전을 임시적으로 휴전한다.하지만 정작 그 드래곤을 드래곤스리치에 불러
낼 수 있는 방법이 없었는데 블레이드단의 기록에서 '오다빙'이라는 드래곤

이 포효를 이용해 드래곤스 리치에서 오다빙을 잡는데 성공한다. 알두인이
주인공에게 거의 캐발릴뻔 했다는 사실을 알고 있던 오다빙은 알두인의 위
치를 의심했기에 자신을 풀어주면 주인공을 알두인이 있는곳으로 데려다준
다는 제안을 하고, 그것을 실행에 옮긴다.
14. 11.부활
• 드래곤본은 에이테리우스의 한 구역인 명예롭게
죽은 노르드 용사만 올 수 있다는 소븐가르드에
도착하고, 거기서 영웅 3명의 도움을 얻어 비록
1대1은 아니었지만 최강의 드래곤이며 세계를
먹어치울 알두인을 쓰러뜨렸다.
15. 12.영약을 가지고 귀환
• 알두인을 쓰러뜨리고 탐리엘로 돌아온 도바킨은 세상의 목젖에서 눈을 뜨
게된다.
• 주인공이 돌아오길 기다리던 오다빙은 알두인의 죽음에 놀라며 자신이 필
요할땐 언제든지 불러달라고 제안을 한뒤 저편으로 사라진다.
16. • 그 외에도 제국과 스톰클록중 한 세력을 도와주
어 스카이림에서 벌어진 내전을 종식시키기도
하는 등 엘더스크롤 주인공다운 비범한 능력을
보여준다.
17. 게임내의 주인공의 시나리오
• 주인공이 자신의 절반에 가까운 힘을 갖고 있다고 밝힌 데이드릭 프
린스 클라비쿠스 바일의 발언으로 미루어 보아 주인공은 엄청난 능
력자라는 걸 알 수 있다.DLC Dragonborn의 퀘스트 "The Gardener
of Men"에서 넬로쓰는 주인공이 "(미락에 이어) 역사상 두 번째로
강력한 드래곤본이 되었다"고 말한다. 여기에 드래곤본 전설은 네레
바린 이상으로 노르드들에게는 유서 깊은 전설이며, 스케일도 세계
의 종말을 막아내는 엄청난 스케일의 전설이다. 다만 DLC 드래곤본
에선 어느 데이드릭 프린스에게 놀아난다.
18. • 미락과는 반대로 5편의 주인공은 최후의 드래곤본이다. 이제 알두인
은 세계에서 영원하게 추방되어 버렸으니 올일도 없을테고, 그러니
알두인을 무찌르기 위해 태어날 드래곤본도 더 이상 필요없기 때문
이다. 다만 알두인의 경우 영혼이 흡수되지 못했기에 자신의 예언을
실행하러 다음 세대에 도착할수도 있다. 그때면 정말 세상이 리셋될
지도. 그리고 사실은 지구였다

19. 시나리오 속의 현대사회비판
-인종차별
스톰클록의 가장 큰 오점은 그들의 인종차별. 내전 시나리오
를 보다시피 순수 노드 혈통을 중시하는 집단이다.윈드헬름
의그레이 쿼터를 보고 충격받은 사람들이 있을만큼 던머에
대한 대접이 안좋다. 무시당하고 핍박받는 던머들이 이런 부
당한 처사와 울프릭 스톰클록의 무심함에 분노한다. 이는 윈
드헬름에서 유일하게 소수 민족들의 안위를 걱정하는 노르
드인 귀족의 발언에서도 확인할 수 있다. 이렇듯 시나리오 속

20. 스톰클록은 제국의 부당한 통치에 맞서는 정의로운 저항군이라고 선전하지만
사실 제국과 스톰클록 간의 내전은 중립적으로 봤을 때 선악이 명확한 구도가
아니다. 비록 플레이어가 노르드가 아니더라도 진정한 스카이림의 아들이라면 누
구나 가입이 가능하고 안그러면 퀘스트 진행이 안되니까, 종족 간 충돌이 있기는
하지만 유혈사태가 벌어지는 수준은 아니다. 하지만 단체 창설 목적이나 기원부터
가 민족주의 에 근간을 두고 있기 때문에 스톰클록 지지자들 사이에서는 불관용적
이고 편협한 인종차별이 널리 퍼져있다
