1) NUS students developed a point redemption system to distribute food rations to 335 needy households in Lengkok Bahru, near Redhill, in order to reduce food waste. 2) Each household receives 40 points on a ration card to "purchase" dry goods and toiletries assigned point values ranging from 1 to 7 points. 3) This pilot program allows beneficiaries like senior citizens to choose their own food items, unlike previous efforts where pre-packed rations sometimes included unusable or unwanted foods.
