The slides of Bjarke Ingels'presentation at TEdxAmsterdamTEDxAmsterdam
Danish architect Bjarke Ingels is the principal of the architecture firm BIG, based in Copenhagen. An alumnus of Rem Koolhaas’ OMA practice, Ingels takes a similar approach: experimenting with pure space, but never losing sight of the building as a solution to a real-world problem. In his talk, Bjarke Ingels rockets through photo/video-mingled stories of his eco-flashy designs. His buildings not only look like nature -- they act like nature: blocking the wind, collecting solar energy -- and creating stunning views.
His manifesto "Yes Is More" takes the form of a giant cartoon strip, 130 meters long, that reminds people to keep thinking big -- to see all our modern problems as challenges that inspire us.

Frei Otto was a German architect and structural engineer known for his pioneering work with lightweight tensile structures. His interest was sparked by designing glider planes and observing how thin membranes over lightweight frames responded to forces. Notable projects include the roof of the Olympic Stadium in Munich (1972), which featured a suspended, cloud-like structure appearing to float over the site. Otto was inspired by natural phenomena like bird skulls, spider webs, bamboo, and soap bubbles to design economical and flexible structures.
Rem Koolhaas is a Dutch architect born in 1944 in the Netherlands. He was influenced by his experiences growing up in Indonesia and the Netherlands, witnessing rebuilding after WWII. Koolhaas founded OMA and is known for deconstructivist buildings featuring experimental designs and asymmetry. Some of his most notable buildings include the CCTV headquarters in Beijing, Seattle Public Library, and Dutch Embassy in Berlin. Koolhaas' designs emphasize adapting to their contexts and accommodating modern needs through unconventional forms and planning principles.
Rem Koolhaas is a Dutch architect, founder of OMA, and known for his experimental and unconventional approach to architecture. He sees architecture as both omnipotent and impotent, and as a chaotic adventure. Some of his notable works include the Seattle Central Library, which features an unusual design with angled walls and skylights to maximize natural light. It has received both praise for its innovation and criticism for its unconventional design. Koolhaas takes a rigorous analytical approach to his projects, exploring the capabilities of materials and proper use of color.
Established in the year 1998 [ www.tensilefabricstructure.com ]As a specialist in designing and building tensile structures, Ekra Decor is involved in every stage upon client selection of combination of architectural fabric structure design and construction.
The document discusses tensile structures, which are buildings that rely on tension in components like cables and fabrics to bear loads. Tensile structures include boundary tensioned membranes, pneumatic structures, and pre-stressed cable nets. They have been used historically in structures like yurts and the Colosseum roof. Tensile structures take saddle, mast-supported, arch-supported, and combination forms. Key components are membranes, bale rings, plates, and specialized hardware. Advantages include long lifecycles, reusability, recyclability, and unique designs, while disadvantages include lack of rigidity and danger if tension is lost.
Rem Koolhaas –designing the design processSjors Timmer
Rem Koolhaas is a renowned Dutch architect known for innovative designs. He co-founded the architecture firm OMA in 1975 and think tank AMO in 1998. Koolhaas' design process involves extensive observation, model building in the studio, archiving models and past projects, publishing books, and drawing from these sources for new projects. This iterative process allows OMA to rapidly generate and test creative ideas.
Pharmaceutical Mergers Acquisitions in the U.SCapgemini
Since 2010, approximately 200 pharmaceutical and biotech deals have taken place per year in the United States. In 2014, only 182 major deals took place, lower than average (~190).
However, 2014 surpassed the combined value of deals from 2011-2013 ($178bn) and saw over $200bn in mergers and acquisitions, a 300% increase from the previous year.
This document summarizes a presentation about the role of social media in healthcare given by Lee Aase from the Mayo Clinic Social Media Network. The presentation discusses how social media has become an important part of Mayo Clinic's operations and patient outreach over time. It also highlights two Canadian collaborations, including developing an online social media curriculum with Hootsuite and hiring a community director. The presentation promotes the Mayo Clinic Social Media Network as a resource for healthcare professionals to learn best practices in using social media.
