The State of Project Management Survey 2016Wellingtone
Wellingtone Project Management and the Association for Project Management (APM) Project Management Office (PMO) Specific Interest Group (SIG) have together published this, our first ‘The State of Project Management’ annual report. It provides a fantastic insight into the state of project management in the UK.
We invited colleagues from across our project management industry to participate, and they did, in their hundreds! 686 project management professionals representing 317 organisations invested their time and effort to help create this survey data. This is the largest ever non-salary focused project management survey in the UK.
Almost every organisation can benefit from improving their project management maturity. Many organisations do not benefit from best practice project management tool and techniques as championed by Wellingtone Project Management and the APM. We hope this report provides the catalyst for you to consider how you can increase your project successes and provides a wake-up call to tackle your biggest challenges.
The survey asks questions across a number of important topics including; project management maturity, tools & techniques, project success rates and PMO maturity.

3. Petra Rona, P3O consultant Lenny Descamps, P3O Practitioner Petra Rona is the first Dutch independent consultant who was P3O certified (UK, 2009). She introduced P3O in the Netherlands in the IPMA PMO special (NL, 2009) in cooperation with Sue Vowler. She is an active P3O champion, initiator of the Anniversary Survey ( with Lenny Descamps, France) and speaker at international Best Practice and IT conferences. Lenny Descamps, 15 years of experience in project, portfolio and programme management is PRINCE2, P3O and MSP certified. He currently works in the French ministry of Finance on a interministerial salary and HR programme and is engaged in the promotion of the best practices. He likes to tailor those referentials and methodologies in a pragmatic way and take into account context and maturity.
21. Sue Vowler is recognised as one of the UK ’s foremost experts in Portfolio, Programme and Project Offices(P3O®) and is the lead author of Cabinet Office P3O® Guidance, launched in October 2008. She has worked with a variety of organisations to design, establish and run P3O offices to ensure delivery success within an organisation’s local culture and structure. Sue feedback : The survey feedback mirrors the feedback I've had in person over the last 3 years ( is it really 3 years - where did that time go....) in particular praise for Appendix F, which was the first bit of the guidance I committed to paper, emptying my brain of the practical activities of all kinds of P3 Office. The P3O world is moving on, I've seen an upswing in the number of portfolio offices being developed, but more recently (last 6 months) a surge in interest in centres of excellence and mentorng / coaching roles. Its also great to see an adoption of P3M3 in assessing maturity alongside the roll out of P3O in organisations and a focus on adding value. Keep on professionalising what we do and spreading the word on P3O. www.best-management-practice.com www.p3o-officialsite.com
