Economies of help the concept behind the consortium for humanitarian interven...Dr. Chris Stout
Over the past thirty years, interest in volunteerism
and philanthropic support has grown dramatically and the
number of humanitarian organizations has increased worldwide. While this growth benefits those in need to some extent, the industry has become competitive instead of cooperative. Organizations doing similar work end up competing against each other for donor dollars rather than work together to have a greater impact. For this reason, the authors support the development of the Consortium for Humanitarian Intervention, where global humanitarian organizations and donor organizations can work collaboratively rather than competitively to enhance creativity and eliminate inefficiencies in the humanitarian industry.
Organizations which are independent of government involvement are known as non-governmental organizations or NGOs or non-government organizations. NGOs are a subgroup of organizations founded by citizens, which include clubs and associations which provide services to its members and others.

As outlined in the course lesson, the United Nations (UN) has played an active role in protecting and serving the global community in a variety of areas that include maintaining international peace and security, protecting human rights, delivering humanitarian aid, promoting sustainable development, and upholding international laws. In this discussion, you will consider the role of humanitarian aid.
The UN is well-known for providing humanitarian aid such as food, water, medical supplies, personnel, resources, and necessities after disasters, such as terrorist attacks, that occur in war-torn areas of the globe. Do you believe that the humanitarian aid provided by the UN is enough? Do you believe that other NATO nations should be required to provide humanitarian aid after a terrorist attack? Why, or why not?

CLASSMATE’S POST
While pondering on the question regarding whether the UN provides enough humanitarian aid, made me realize the only thing I know about the UN is what everyone else knows. It provides global humanitarian aid such as food, housing, water, medical, and financial assistance to protect lives, relieve, and lessen distress while preserving and respecting the dignity of others especially, during man-made and naturals (GHA, n.d). After researching information about the UN, my appreciation and understanding has changed because of its complexities. According to the United Nations of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) (n.d.) and the Global Humanitarian Assistance Organization (GHA) (n.d) this is not all .
The United Nations (UN) Secretariat entity is known for bringing all parties together for providing rational and comprehensible humanitarian aid response to countries in an emergency is known as the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Seybolt (2009) stated how simple this process appears as well as complicated and difficult. The UN system of providing aid should be perceived as a coordinating, directing, ensuring aide in routed to its proper destination. Global leaders participating in the UN’s mission all understand what they are to do to promote this task. Financial assistance by all UN members maintains a steady flow for monetary needs, however, other needs such as individual, medical, teaching, and training to survive in today’s society and environmental situations are important. A discovery I made during my research, is that the UN accepts denotations from any and every entity who wishes to denote to their cause. The perception is that all monies and aid is allocated to the central fund and system, however, this is not the case. Because these country leaders while supporting the greater good, also understand they have other responsibilities and duties to their government and po ...
This research sought to determine what types of policies organizations are implementing in regard to political activities in the workplace, particularly as they relate to the 2016 presidential election. The survey also looked at whether organizations encouraged their employees to vote in political elections and whether employees were given time off to vote.

SHRM/Ascendo Resources: The Importance of Social Media for Recruiters and Job...shrm
This research, conducted in collaboration with Ascendo Resources, looks at the importance of having a social media presence for job seekers, as well as social media strategies HR professionals use for recruitment. Overall, 87% of HR professionals said it was either very or somewhat important for job seekers to have a social media presence on LinkedIn, and 83% agreed it was important to be on a relevant professional or association social networking site. In the past year, nearly two-thirds of organizations (65%) had hired new employees who were sourced through social media sites.
SHRM'S 2010 Healthy Food and Drinks in the Workplace poll surveyed HR professionals about healthy offerings in their organizations. Forty percent of organizations have formal or informal practices and/or policies in place that promote healthy food and drinks in the workplace. Nearly all employees have responded favorably to these organizations’ efforts to promote healthy food and drinks for work-related functions where food is served, in on-site vending machines, in the company cafeteria, etc.
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM®), the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management, has collaborated with Globoforce® on a series of surveys about employee recognition. Our goal is to elicit trends among HR leaders and practitioners about what challenges they face and what strategies help them conquer those challenges. In the 2015 survey, 80% of organizations indicated they have an employee recognition program, and more than one-half (58%) have a program that is tied to their organization’s values. Overall, respondents said employee recognition programs had a positive impact on employee engagement, happiness and workplace relationships, but the impact was perceived to be greater for those with values-based programs.
This research collected comprehensive information on the prevalence of organizations hiring 2015 college graduates with undergraduate and graduate degrees. The findings revealed that one-fifth of respondents (20%) indicated their organizations hired 2015 college graduates to begin working after graduation, and 15% indicated they hired 2015 college graduates to begin working before graduation. Among organizations that indicated they had hired 2015 graduates, 18% offered higher total compensation to 2015 college graduates than to 2014 college graduates; the majority (81%) offered compensation that was “about the same.”

3. What type of relief efforts are organizations offering? Encouraging employees to donate individually (i.e., on their own) without company involvement (69%) was the most commonly reported type of assistance. More than one-half (54%) of organizations are providing information on various agencies employees can donate to and nearly one-half (46%) are matching employee contribution (e.g., dollar-for-dollar match) via company-organized donation programs.
4. Are organizations providing the same amount of assistance for Japan compared with the Haiti earthquake in 2010? More than one-half of the organizations (52%) in the 2010 survey about Haiti earthquake relief efforts indicated that they were providing assistance to the victims in the 2010 Haiti earthquake. This is double the percentage of organizations (24%) that reported providing relief efforts for the victims of the Japan earthquake and tsunami. Among organizations participating in relief efforts, there are several similarities in the types of assistance offered to Japan and Haiti: 1) The majority of organizations donated via company funds only, without matching employee contributions (69% for Japan and 71% for Haiti); 2) organizations provided information on various agencies that employees could donate to in support of relief efforts (54% for Japan compared with 62% for Haiti); and 3) an equal percentage of organizations matched employee contributions (e.g., dollar-for-dollar match) via company-organized donation program for both Haiti and Japan disasters (46% each). 2
