The GMS Creek Crew from 2007-2009 studied the impact of urbanization on the Scott County watersheds. The crew, made up of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students from Georgetown Middle School, tested water quality in North Elkhorn Creek by measuring pH, dissolved oxygen, and macroinvertebrates under the guidance of their teachers. They collaborated with local experts who spoke to the class and took a field trip to understand how development and land use affect local waterways.
