This document provides analysis of the trailers for the films Split and Get Out. 2.  Spit trailer last 2:30 minutes, it allows us to see
a good amount of the plot, for instance a few of
his split personalities and his mental state, the
moments when the girls are captive in the
room, and the beginning when the girls are first
kidnapped. by showing the strange moments
of villain, the viewer is able to see what is going
on and the problems that may occur in the
movie.

3.  lighting and color: In the beginning the trailer starts off bright and
colorful yet dull, however as the trailer goes on, it gets darker and
darker, there isn't much color involved which builds up the thriller side
to the trailer. The only time the trailer has a lot of color in it is when the
man leaves and goes to the therapist, this is emphasizing that outside is
a happy place and inside where the girls are isn't.
 Editing: The trailer is cut into parts, there's always a gap to build up
the tension, for instance, the beginning, it cuts off bits and jumps to
parts to make it more dramatic. It does this throughout the trailer
because the director wants to grab the audiences attention and stop
them from getting bored. i feel like many companies do this to create a
more dramatic effect, they take the best parts from a movie and
combine it all together to create the best trailer.
 Conventions: The trailer includes a villain, the hero, the people who
are in trouble, blood, violence, dark scenes, happy moments and scary
moments. All of these are included which makes this trailer a thriller.
Without these conventions the trailer/movie wouldn't be a thriller.
What the film is about

4.  In this scene we can see a point of view shot, they have done this so
that the character of the villain isn't revealed straight away, to cause
tension and grab the viewers attention.
 Medium shot is used so the viewer can see the surroundings, it also
allows the viewer to see the difference, the girls room is dark and
outside to door is bright and not as scary as you'd think it would be.
 In this scene a low angel shot is used to make one of the girls look
bigger, where his personality has gone to a little boy it makes the girls
more powerful and in control.
 The camera then goes to a high angle shot to show how to girl is back
to being the one who's not in control and doesn't have a lot of power.

in power

6.  Get out is 2:32 Minutes long, this is a good
amount of time for this trailer because it allows
us to see sneak peaks of the beginning, middle
and end of the movie. The viewers are able to
see how the movie unfolds, it begins with a
happy couple who go down to see the
girlfriends parents, however theirs a sinister
twist to her family and the trailer/movie
unravels from there.

7.  Lighting and Color: Most thriller movies always begin outside, daytime, happy, in
this trailer we see a lot of blue, blue on the police man, blue sky, and then at the end
when he sinks we see blue, even down to the colors the main character Chris
wearing blue at the end, it strange because the color blue starts of bright and
colorful but towards to end its a more dark gloomy blue. I feel as though to director
has done this because blue is a cold color, it doesn't make the viewer feel warm,
content it makes them feel cold as if they are apart of the trailer themselves and
that's what I think the director was trying to do.
 Editing: In the trailer we are shown Daniel's (the main character) childhood in a
different way, the trailer has been edited in a way where it shows the sinister parts
of the movie by flashing back to his childhood while he's sitting in the chair
being hypnotized. The trailer is fast pacing, showing clips of all different key parts
of the movie. This is done so that it grabs the audiences attention by making them
think that by looking away they will miss an important moment in the trailer.
 Conventions: The hero: Police officer - Daniel's Best friend
Villain - Daniel's Girlfriend/ Family
Vulnerable individual - Daniel
Blood scenes and violence towards the end.
 All of these conventions are made up to make the thriller what is it. without all of
these conventions the movie wouldn't be under the genre 'physiological thriller',
because Daniel (Main character) ends up going crazy because the Mother is able to
get into his mind, reminding him of his childhood.
What the film is about

8.  Over the shoulder shot - this is used a lot in the trailer, preferably showing that
someone is always watching, it is used in the beginning when Daniel and his
girlfriend are travelling in the car and the animal hits their car.
 Close up Shot - this was used in the beginning on Daniel when he was looking at
something, this allowed the audience to see his expression on his face. furthermore
it was used at the end when the maid was laughing and crying to Daniel in the
bedroom, showing us the different emotions she was going through.
 Medium Shot - used at 1.16 minutes into the trailer when Allison's (the girlfriend)
father was standing with a group of people at the party and they point over to
Daniel, this gives the audience a good view of the characters who are in the movie.
 High Angle shot - this shot is used at the very end of the trailer, in the beginning
Daniel is portrayed as the male who is in control, however in the quick scene where
he is falling, when he gets hypnotized the camera is above him, causing him to
looking weak and not in control of the situation anymore.
