The document discusses two potential career paths - lawyer and doctor. For lawyer, the document notes a passion for arguing since childhood and interest in human rights law, finding it rewarding to defend people whose rights have been violated. For doctor, the document discusses always doing well in sciences/math and liking the idea of helping and healing people, seeing it as a rewarding job that could potentially save lives, noting traits of working well under pressure and being driven that would serve medicine well.
2. LAWYER. Ever since I was young I always got in trouble
for arguing with my parents. Even if I knew I was wrong, I
wanted to argue for the sake of arguing and to prove them
wrong! (My parents always won the argument anyways)
They would always joke about it and tell me to save it for
the courtroom, and that they didn’t have to worry about
me supporting myself because I would make millions at
law. But as I got older I started to think that being a
lawyer would be a good job, and I thought I would like to
be one.
Career #1!
3. What I didn’t realize as a child was that there was about a
million and 1 different kinds of lawyers out there. A lot of
lawyers (tax lawyers) have to sit in offices, they don’t
have very much human interaction and they sit at a desk
all day long. I knew from the start that that was NOT the
kind of lawyer I wanted to be.
I wanted to be involved with people, so a courtroom
lawyer that does more exciting things than just
paperwork!
What type of law?
4. There are still probably 1000 different types of law
that I’ve never even heard of, but what I thought
might be something for me is Human Rights law. It’
s dealing with people’s basic human rights that
have been violated. When I believe in something,
or when somebody has been violated, I get really
passionate and heated up about my opinion, and I
want to do something about it. In a situation of
being a lawyer, I feel like I could do a great job of
defending/prosecuting someone in that kind of
situation.
5. Doctor. I have always been good in sciences and math,
and this year in grade 11 I’m a year ahead in math and
taking all of the science options. I think helping and
healing people would be a very rewarding job, and
something I have been interested in for a while. I don’t
know what kind of medicine I would do specifically, but a
I think a specialty would be neat.
Career #2
6. Caring for people and potentially saving someone’s life is
a lot of pressure for someone to deal with every single
day. I’ve put a lot of pressure on myself my entire life,
and I know I work well under lots of pressure. I also don’t
give up easily. I’m very driven and persistent, which I
think would be excellent traits to possess for medicine.
When I know I’m going into a something tricky, I take a
few breaths and make a plan. I don’t rush into anything
that could potentially have consequences. I think it’s
super important for doctor’s to not be impulsive and to
think and double think before they do anything!
Why would I be good at it?
7. I’m a people person! Having different
patients everyday would mean I get to deal
with people and try and improve their
health. I love working with people, and I
think I would be good at conversing with
patients, and try and help them in any way I
could.
