1. The role of Supervisor: Supervisor is responsible for the productivity and actions of a small
group of employees. The supervisor main job is controlling work rather than performing it
directly.They set performance standards for tasks, jobs and roles of their employees.
2. Organisation: An organisation is an entity comprising multiple people, such as an institution or
an association that has a collective goal and is linked to an external environment.
3. Authority: Authority is the right to perform or command.It is a character of communication by
which an order is accepted by an individual as governing the actions that individual takes within
the system
Types of Authority:
a)Line Authority
b) Staff Authority
c) Functional Authority
3.Planning: When an organisation creates a strategic plan, its defines its long-term goals and
plans.To achieve these goals, it must next define the necessary daily operations and participating
groups that make it function.This is called planning and supervisor s play a vital role in the
function and success of this planning.

5. Delegation: Delegation is the assignment of any responsibility to another person to carry out
specific activities.Effective delegation will benefit the manager, the employee and the
organisation. It can improve quality of work by allowing the employees who have the direct
knowledge of products and services to make decisions and complete tasks.It involves following:
a) Assignment of Responsibility
b) Grant of Authority
c)Creation of Accountability
Types of delegation: a) General of Specific delegation b) Formal or Informal Delegation c)

6. Linear Structure of personnel and function: Linear Structure is one of the types of formal
organisational structure. Each supervisor has clearly assigned subordinated and each subordinate
has clearly assigned supervisor.
7. Recruitment of personnel: Recruitment refers to the overall process of attracting, shortlisting,
selecting and appointing suitable candidates in an organisation. It includes the following stages:
a) Searching out the sources from where required persons will be available for recruitment.
b) Developing techniques to attract the suitable candidates.The goodwill and reputation of an
organisaton is one of the important factors.
c) To stimulate as many andidates as possible to apply for jobs.

9. Staff orientation : It is simply telling employees a few things about the organisation. It is a
planned introduction that combines information, experiences and a transmission of the values
and culture of the organisation. It aims to provide knowledge to new staff members about the
work/jobs they have to do and to integrate themselves into the organisation.
10. Staff Training: Employee training is a program that helps employees learn specific
knowledge or skills to improve performance in their current roles.It allows you to strengthen
those skills that employees need to improve.Benefits of training are as follows: a) Increased job
satisfaction and morale among employees b) Increase employee motivation ) Increase efficiency
in processes resulted in financial gain d)Increase innovation in strategies
11.Professional Development of Staff: It focuses on career-related skills. Some of the skills may
benefit business immediately and directly while other contribute to the professionalism and
competency in a more general way.
The Professional Staff Development (PSD) program provides an opportunity for participants to
identify and develop key competencies that can help them excel professionally.
