Productivity is never an
accident. It is always the result
of a commitment to excellence,
intelligent planning, and focused
effort.
Paul J. Meyer
Historically, the
Australian freight and
logistics industry
mainly worked dayshift
only and on occasions
would work an
afternoon shift.
Sydney Ports (Port
Botany)
2.0 million TEU
(30%)
Port of Brisbane -
Fisherman Island
1.0 million TEU
(14%)
Port of Adelaide
(Flinders)
0.3 million TEU
(4%)
Port of Melbourne
2.4 million TEU
(35%)
Fremantle Ports
0.6 million TEU
(9%)
With a national total of over 6 million TEU,
the current way was not working.
In 2005 our VBS was created to maximize terminal
operations and co-ordinate the efficient flow of
trucks through a port facility.
Now, Australian terminals
use the VBS to plan their
workload, then organise
the equipment and staff
to support it.
The VBS is also used to
manage container and truck
movements to reduce traffic
congestion and truck turn-
around times.
By using the VBS to regulate and control the
flow of trucks, port community members can
grow capacity without increasing land size,
thus reducing costs.

The VBS is even mobile.
