They engaged in various outdoor activities like hiking, biking, kayaking, and safaris during their global travels together over the four year period.
This document provides a travelogue summary of the author's 28 day trip to 25 countries beginning in Istanbul, Turkey and ending in Singapore. Some of the key locations visited include Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Jakarta, Indonesia; Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei; Male, Maldives; Colombo, Sri Lanka; Darwin, Australia; and Dili, East Timor. The author documents their travels through photos and descriptions of local sights, cultures, modes of transportation and interesting people met along the way.
The document provides details from a tour of several Pacific island countries, including Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Australia, Nauru, Vanuatu, Fiji, Tuvalu, Kiribati, and Tonga. In Papua New Guinea, the author visited Port Moresby, drove into the mountains towards the Kokoda Trail, and saw WWII relics. In Nauru, the author was given a tour of the Buada Lagoon area and met with a United Nations liaison office. In Fiji, the author stayed in Nadi which was far enough south to avoid damage from a recent Category 5 cyclone, and learned that Fiji has the most soft coral in the world. The document
NASA sent an expedition to the North Pole in 2003 to study the effects of climate change in the Arctic. As part of the expedition, scientists installed an ocean-atmosphere sensor integration system to collect data on temperature, salinity, winds and other conditions. The data collected will help researchers better understand how the Arctic is changing as global temperatures rise.
The document discusses theories for how the large stone statues on Easter Island (Moai) were transported and erected given the island's limited resources. It proposes that two techniques were used: 1) Some smaller statues were "walked" across the island by rocking them forward, as evidenced by how broken statues were found oriented. 2) Larger statues and those moved long distances were likely moved horizontally on a wooden "railroad" system consisting of parallel logs and roller sleds to distribute the weight, since an upright position risks breakage. This technique would not leave archaeological remains but fits with the engineering skills of the inhabitants. Erecting statues likely involved wooden ramps, but the method remains uncertain.
This document lists the names and affiliations of interns who participated in bootcamps and projects from 1997-2011 at Goddard Space Flight Center. Over 100 graduate and undergraduate students from universities in the US and abroad are mentioned as having worked on robotics, autonomous vehicles, imaging, and other engineering projects during the summer and school year. Locations of work included Antarctica, Alaska, and Greenland.
This document appears to be an invoice or receipt from February 2002 for a service called "Aqua - Hawaii". No other details are provided in the one-line document.
This document summarizes geological evidence from the Grand Canyon that is inconsistent with the standard geological timescale and depositional models, but aligns with rapid deposition during a global flood.
It discusses how the widespread, horizontal rock layers over large areas, including distinctive marker units, suggest rapid rather than slow deposition over millions of years. It notes gaps in the geological column where erosion would be expected but is not seen, and widespread sedimentary layers that are better explained by catastrophic rather than uniformitarian processes. Examples of rapid erosion rates during floods are provided. The document examines geological anomalies like tracks in "wrong" layers that do not fit an evolutionary timeline. In summary, the evidence from the Grand Canyon supports non-uniformitarian catastrophic deposition align
NASA's North Pole Expedition set out in 1999 to conduct research and be the first to webcast from the North Pole. They brought equipment like video cameras, laptops, and a TDRSS terminal to allow internet access. During their journey they made stops in Resolute Bay and Eureka to conduct research and download data at speeds up to 40 mph before continuing on to reach the North Pole, where they observed weather phenomena like sun halos and pressure ridges.
