Kepler space telescope finds 12th Earth-like planet
NASA FINDS EARTH’S COUSIN
• The NASA Kepler mission/telescope was launched in 2009.
• Its goal was to find habitable planets in the Milky Way.
• The Kepler space telescope is now 64 million miles from Earth.
• It has found 1,000+ planets, 12 of them potentially habitable.
• The newest one, and most promising, is called Kepler-425b.
• It is 1,400 light-years away and 60% bigger than Earth.
• It is in the “habitable zone” of its star & could have water.
• Its star is very similar to our sun but is 1 billion years older.
• Kepler-452b could be a rocky planet with twice Earth's gravity.
• Kepler-452b has 385 days in its year.
