Editor's Notes

  • #2 God speaks because He is relational. God describes His relationship with us as a Father with His children. ‘The voice of parents is as the voice of gods.’ So says Shakespeare. Our words carry a kind of divine weight during our children’s early years… impressing something that will stay long after the wet cement of their hearts and minds and souls may have dried. You see, our words are not raindrops, evaporating moments after we say them. As I said in the previous post, they are more like seeds. Slowly, slowly, they take root. Some lie dormant in our child’s subconscious, suddenly taking root and growing years after we planted them, and long after we even remember saying them. Our words have immense potential to shape the people our offspring are becoming, for better or for worse. In particular, our words tend to affect the way our child sees and feels about three things… 1. Our words affect how they feel about themselves. I love you if … 2. Our words affect how they feel about us. Does our words even the correction separate or connect 3. Our words affect what they value and how they treat others. ‘Sharing is caring.’ ‘Boys never hit girls.’ ‘If it’s not fun for all, it’s not fun at all.’ ‘It’s not the end of the world!’ ‘Be kind.’ ‘Wait your turn.’ ‘If at first you don’t succeed, try again.’ ‘It’s okay to fail.’ ‘It’s okay to feel sad/depressed/disappointed/frustrated.’ ‘It’s always best to tell the truth.’ ‘Forgive her.’ ‘You’re not the centre of the universe.’ ‘Do the right thing – even if you could have gotten away with it.’ From (http://thedaddude.com/index.php/2016/02/05/428/)
  • #3 Knowledge Understanding Wisdom
  • #4 God created us to speak with us. We were made in His image so we could know Him and understand Him.
  • #5 In the relationship between the divine Father and Son we see how He relates to His children. Before Jesus had begun His public ministry the Father affirmed His relationship with Him and confirmed His love for Him. Just like our children should never doubt their relationship status with us or how we feel about them, so God wants His children to know you are His child and how He feels about you. We need daily reminders, not because He is uncertain but because our disposition is to doubt. “Sonship is a heart that feels at rest and secure in God’s love; it believes it belongs, it is free from shame and self-condemnation, it walks in honor toward all people, and it is willing to humble itself before man and God. It is subject to God’s mission to experience His love and to give it away.”  ― Jack Frost
  • #6 Towards the end of Jesus public ministry at that key event of the transfiguration the Father spoke aloud again. The Transfiguration, according to the Church Kontakion, was to show the Apostles, beyond doubt, that Jesus was truly God so that when the Apostles beheld Jesus crucified, they would know that he suffered voluntarily and wouldn't loose faith. It was also again the Father speaking to His son and validating their relationship for all to hear and then giving authority to Him. God was saying because He is my son He speaks on my behalf. Listen to Him like you would to me.
  • #7 What is the Father saying to you. What is the voice that rings in your heart?
