Henry Fayol proposed 14 principles of management that can be applied to all levels and departments of management. The principles include division of work, authority and responsibility, discipline, unity of command, unity of direction, subordination of individual interests, remuneration, centralization, scalar chain, order, equity, stability, initiative, and esprit de corps. Fayol believed dividing work enhances quality and productivity while principles like unity of command, direction, and chain of command promote organizational cohesion and clarity of reporting. The principles also emphasize fair treatment of employees, job security, support for initiative taking, and developing positive relationships and trust within the organization.
