Anubis was one of the oldest Egyptian gods associated with embalming and guiding spirits. He was the most important god in the necropolis, guiding spirits to be judged by Osiris and to the underworld. Anubis was represented with the head of a black jackal and body of a human, and was the first god of death with an unknown origin.
