Representatives from Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France held 17-hour peace talks that resulted in a ceasefire agreement to end the ongoing violence in eastern Ukraine between Ukrainian forces and pro-Russian separatists. The new ceasefire deal is similar to a previous 2014 agreement and includes provisions for a "special status" for pro-Russian areas, the release of prisoners by both sides, and Ukraine regaining control of its border. All parties have agreed to the ceasefire which will begin on February 15th.

The Great War was caused by long term tensions between European powers as well as short term events that sparked the war. In the long term, Germany's growing power threatened other countries and an arms race increased tensions. By 1914, Europe was divided into two alliance systems. The short term cause was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand which gave Austria-Hungary an excuse to attack Serbia, drawing in the other powers. Germany backed Austria-Hungary and invaded neutral Belgium, bringing Britain into the war against Germany and its allies.
26.2 a new kind of war
World War 1 was fought across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia from 1914 to 1918. Both sides dug extensive trench systems along the Western Front in Europe, leading to years of stalemate and millions of casualties. New weapons like machine guns, artillery, and gas caused unprecedented death and destruction. The war also involved fighting along the Eastern Front against Russia, in the Balkans, Ottoman Empire, European colonies worldwide, and naval conflict using submarines and airplanes. Ultimately, the war resulted in massive losses with no clear victor until the Central Powers surrendered in 1918.
Causes of World War 1
In 1914, Europe was divided into two opposing alliances: the Triple Alliance of Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy; and the Triple Entente of Britain, France and Russia. Each country had military capabilities and reasons for distrusting others. This system of alliances and military buildup created rising tensions that led Europe toward war.

El Puerto de Algeciras continúa un año más como el más eficiente del continente europeo y vuelve a situarse en el “top ten” mundial, según el informe The Container Port Performance Index 2023 (CPPI), elaborado por el Banco Mundial y la consultora S&P Global.
El informe CPPI utiliza dos enfoques metodológicos diferentes para calcular la clasificación del índice: uno administrativo o técnico y otro estadístico, basado en análisis factorial (FA). Según los autores, esta dualidad pretende asegurar una clasificación que refleje con precisión el rendimiento real del puerto, a la vez que sea estadísticamente sólida.
