Shoppers are expected to spend more on back-to-school shopping this year, with an average of $488 anticipated to be spent. Most shoppers will do the majority of their shopping in physical stores, though technology purchases are more likely to be made online. Research is done digitally before purchases are made in stores. Spending is heaviest on traditional items like clothing, shoes, and school supplies, though those buying computers or gadgets will spend the most overall. Early shopping and following school-recommended lists influences higher spending.
Essential things that should always be in your carEason Chan
A driver can bail out of a lot of sticky situations if he plans ahead. More often than not, things go south on you when you think nothing could go wrong. So it pays to hope for the best and plan for the worst, especially on the road. Here are some things that should always be kept in your car for all those just in case moments.
What happens when the digital tools and platforms we make and use for communication and entertainment are hijacked for terrorism, violence against the vulnerable and nefarious transactions? What role do designers and developers play? Are we complicit as creators of these technologies and products? Should we police them or fight back? As Portfolio Lead for Northern Lab, Northern Trust's internal innovation startup focused on client and partner experience, Antonio will share a mix of provocative scenarios torn from today's headlines and compelling stories where activism and technology facilitated peace—and war.
As a call-to-action for designers and developers to engage in projects capable of transformational change, he'll explore the question: How might technology foster new experiences to better accelerate social activism and make the world a smarter, safer place?

The purpose of this study is to develop a comprehensive Corridor Improvement Plan (“Plan”) for the Towns of Clifton Park and
Halfmoon, in addition to improving the integration of land use and transportation in the area. Collectively, these improvements will
create a sense of place and identity for both Towns in a pedestrian friendly, mixed use environment.
The Grant Coordinator presented an update to the Halfmoon Town Board regarding grants received and implemented. The grants totaled in excess of $5.4 million and accomplished several purposes ranging from infrastructure improvements to equipment purchases.
This document summarizes a community workshop about completing the Champlain Canalway Trail from Waterford to Whitehall. It discusses the goals of connecting existing trail segments and promoting the trail as part of a regional network. It provides information on the current state of the trail, including miles open, planned, and undefined. It also discusses potential trail opportunities and benefits, as well as addressing issues like route, funding, and gaining community support.
The Trails Master Plan was prepared to provide a vision and detailed plan for alternative transportation and recreation for public review, comment and eventual adoption as the Town of Halfmoon Trails Master Plan.
The purpose of the Open Space Conservation Plan is to identify
appropriate strategies that will protect unique natural areas within the town
that could be lost to future development pressures. Goals for the plan have
been formulated with the Halfmoon community’s natural assets and future
course of development in mind. The analytical process follows a
groundwork that has been designed to achieve community goals. The plan
also identifies the principles and techniques that will be utilized to protect
these resources
This report was prepared for the New York State Department of State with funds
provided under Title 11 of the Environmental Protection Fund. Clough Harbour &
Associates LLP was selected by the Town of Halfmoon to assist the project steering
committee in completion of this study. The goal of this project was to identify an
exciting, yet realistic vision for the future of Halfmoon’s waterfront located along the
Mohawk and Hudson Rivers.
The Town of Halfmoon will conduct a feasibility study of potential trail alignments to extend the Crescent Trail along the Mohawk River in the vicinity of the Interstate 87 bridge. The project will study the physical limitation, environmental constraints and social concerns related to extending this section of the Crescent Trail. The project will result in a conceptual plan for the trail route with preliminary cost estimates, identification of potential funding sources, and plans for construction implementation and management.
The Town of Halfmoon (Contractor) will complete designs for a new park on the Hudson River for waterfront access and passive recreation. The waterfront park will be created on approximately a 2.5 acre, Town-Owned parcel with approximately 270 linear feet of waterfront. The park concept includes passive recreational space with picnic tables, grills and restrooms; a pavilion for gatherings; and car-top boat launch and small watercraft docking facilities; and a parking area. The project will include the preparation of plans, designs and construction documents for the park.

Rethinking Kållered │ From Big Box to a Reuse Hub: A Transformation Journey ...SirmaDuztepeliler
"Rethinking Kållered │ From Big Box to a Reuse Hub: A Transformation Journey Toward Sustainability"
The booklet of my master’s thesis at the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology. (Gothenburg, Sweden)
This thesis explores the transformation of the vacated (2023) IKEA store in Kållered, Sweden, into a "Reuse Hub" addressing various user types. The project aims to create a model for circular and sustainable economic practices that promote resource efficiency, waste reduction, and a shift in societal overconsumption patterns.
Reuse, though crucial in the circular economy, is one of the least studied areas. Most materials with reuse potential, especially in the construction sector, are recycled (downcycled), causing a greater loss of resources and energy. My project addresses barriers to reuse, such as difficult access to materials, storage, and logistics issues.
Aims:
• Enhancing Access to Reclaimed Materials: Creating a hub for reclaimed construction materials for both institutional and individual needs.
• Promoting Circular Economy: Showcasing the potential and variety of reusable materials and how they can drive a circular economy.
• Fostering Community Engagement: Developing spaces for social interaction around reuse-focused stores and workshops.
• Raising Awareness: Transforming a former consumerist symbol into a center for circular practices.
Highlights:
• The project emphasizes cross-sector collaboration with producers and wholesalers to repurpose surplus materials before they enter the recycling phase.
• This project can serve as a prototype for reusing many idle commercial buildings in different scales and sizes.
• The findings indicate that transforming large vacant properties can support sustainable practices and present an economically attractive business model with high social returns at the same time.
• It highlights the potential of how sustainable practices in the construction sector can drive societal change.
