1. IBM posts SPECjbb2005 benchmark scores for x3500 M3 server
x3500 M3 delivers competitive performance for Java-based applications
March 23, 2010 ... IBM® today announces SPECjbb®2005 benchmark results for the IBM
System x® 3500 M3 server. The x3500 M3, using IBM J9 Java™6 Runtime Environment,
achieved a score of 916,251 SPECjbb2005 business operations per second (SPECjbb2005 bops)
and 152,709 SPECjbb2005 bops/JVM (total of six JVMs), running SPECjbb2005 (Java Business
Benchmark), the SPEC® benchmark used for evaluating the performance of servers running
typical Java applications.
The x3500 M3 was configured with the Intel® Xeon® Processor X5680 (3.33GHz with 256KB L2
cache per core and 12MB L3 cache per processor—2 chips/12 cores/6 cores per chip), 24GB of
memory, one 73GB disk drive, and IBM J9 Java 6 (using a 1875MB heap), and Microsoft®
Windows® Server 2008 R2 Enterprise x64 Edition. (1)
The System x3500 M3 servers provide a compact 5U, two-way, SMP-capable Intel Xeon
processor-based platform designed with integrated high-availability features for mainstream
network server applications. These servers are highly scalable in configuration, performance, and
availability. They contain additional fault tolerance through PCI-Express, and support for PCI-X.
They also feature enhanced systems-management control. These flexible tower models deliver
the best blend of power, manageability, expandability, and serviceability. They meet the
requirements of server applications in the small-to-mainstream businesses that need an
affordable general-purpose network server.
Results referenced are current as of March 23, 2010. The SPECjbb2005 results have been
submitted to SPEC for review. Upon successful review, the result will be posted at www.spec.org.
