IRETE MEJI
(Eji- Elemere)
A. 1. Ifa assures you that your life shall be blessed with
profitability. You will never die young. You shall be happy
and very comfortable. You shall also be blessed with the
support of Ile, the mother-earth.
Ifa advises you to offer Ebo with one big he-goat and
money. You also need to find out what Ile will take from you
and feed her accordingly. On this, Irete-Meji says:
Iyan bemubemu lo kun inu igba
Oro bemubemu ko kun ikun agbalagba
Dia fun Ilemajeyi

2. Ifa assures you that you will never live a chaotic life. Ifa
assures you that if you can dedicate all your life to Ifa, you shall
be made an ambassador of Olodumare. You shall also be
blessed with all the Ire in life.
Ifa advises you to have the sign of Ifa on your person at all times.
You need to have the Ide of Ifa round your wrist and neck at all
times. If possible, you can also have it round your waist. With
this, all negative principalities will maintain their distance from you
because they will know that you have the sign and protection of
Ifa on your person. Ifa recommends for you to offer ebo with two
rats, two fish, two hens and money. You are also advised to
feed Ifa with one matured she-goat. On this, Irete-meji says:

3. Ifa says that all the blessings in your family shall be
divided into two; one part shall be given to you while the
other part shall be shared by all the other members of
your family. Ifa’s says that this is so because the woman
who gave birth to you had offered a lot of ebo on your
behalf even before you were born, and when you were
young, the prayers of your mother had been given
favourable consideration and accepted by Olodumare
ever before you was born. For this reason, you are
entitled to all the Ire in life.
In order to open the door of all these Ire in life, Ifa advises
you to offer ebo with four guinea-fowls and money. On
this, Ifa says:

4. Ifa says that you shall not only be blessed with all the
good things of life outside where you were born, you will
also have a lot to show for all these blessings. Ifa says
that there are three of you who are moving together but
who are not born in the same town. Ifa assures the three
of you that you will all succeed in your new place of abode
and you will be able to take the evidence of your success
back to your home lands.
Ifa advises each of the three of you to offer ebo with three
white pigeons, three ducks, three roosters, three guinea-
fowls and money. On this aspect, Ifa says:

5. Ifa says that it foresees the blessing of all ire in life for the
you. Ifa says that you shall be blessed with honour and
followership. You shall be respected and adored.
Ifa says that right now, you are in hot pursuit of wealth at
the expense of your spiritual elevation. Ifa warns you that
whether you scramble for wealth or not, you will be
blessed with wealth; but if you lose your spiritual essence,
then you have lost all.
Ifa advises you to offer ebo with two pigeons, two
guinea-fowls, four rats, four fish, plenty of shrimps
and money. You need to be eating shrimps regularly in
order for your wealth to reach your hands as quickly as
possible. On these, Ifa says:

6. Ifa says that you have all it takes to succeed in life,
especially if you plan to leave your place of birth in
search of greener pastures elsewhere. Ifa says that at
the initial stage, it may not be easy because you may
have to contend with four obstacles in your quest for
success. Ifa advises you not to confront these obstacles,
but rather to use your wisdom and understanding to get
round them to succeed. If this can be done, you will
surely succeed where others had failed. You will have
course to celebrate.
Ifa recommends for you to offer ebo with animal bones
(any animal), yam peeling, corn, eeri, corn meal ofal,
and money. On this, a stanza in Irete Meji says:
Okiti babaaba nii pekun opopo

7. Ifa says that you may be suffering from chest and head
pain. You may be having some dizziness or lightness in
your head, while at the same time, you may be
experiencing some heaviness in your chest or be feeling
some ache therein. Ifa says that these are normal
because Orunmila and Sango are protecting your head
and chest from the attack of Iku, Death and that is why
you are having the sensations in your head and chest. Ifa
says that as soon as you offer appropriate ebo for this, the
sensation will disappear. Ifa advises you to offer ebo with
one mature he-goat and money. After this, you need to
feed Ifa and Sango. On this, Ifa says
Keke b’idi meregbe

8. Ifa says that you shall be placed among Kings and Queens of this
world. You shall be in the midst of shakers and movers of your
community. Whatever you say will matter and will be taken
seriously by all.
Ifa also says that there is no condition or situation that you will not
be able to adapt yourself to. This is your own talent and it is a
special blessing from Olodumare.
Ifa advises you to put on all the dresses that you have in your
life in one day - even if these dresses are more than five
hundred! All you need to do is to put on these dresses one after
the other. You however need to undress one before wearing
another. By so doing, you will receive honour and glory from
Olodumare. On this aspect, Irete meji says:
Ede ihin o jo t’ohun

9. Ifa says that there is a contentious matter facing you presently.
Ifa says that with the appropriate ebo, you will overcome the
problem. There may also be the problem involving love or
matrimonial issue that you are facing presently. Ifa says that you
need to offer ebo so that you will be able to come out of the
problem unhurt.
Ifa advises you to offer ebo with six big kola nuts, one plate and
plenty of money. Ifa says that if this can be done as quickly as
possible, you shall not be humiliated or blamed for your actions.
On this aspect, Ifa says:

He was advised to offer ebo
He complied
Not too long, soon after
Come and meet us where we celebrate victory
Here comes Ifa
The holy palm tree that manifests with efficacy.
10. Ifa says that you or someone close to you are presently
erecting a building. There is the need for you to offer ebo
immediately in order to avert an impending disaster. This
is because as you are erecting the property on earth, your
Egbe in heaven are also erecting another property for you
in heaven in anticipation of your arrival. This is why it is
necessary to offer ebo so that the house in heaven will be
demolished while the one on earth will be completed. Ifa
says that if this is not done in time, as soon as you
complete the construction of the property on earth, you
run the risk of losing your life under mysterious
circumstances.
Ifa advises you to offer ebo with one mature ram and money. A
make-shift tent will be erected with sticks and palm fronds to
represent the house in heaven. The ram will be tied to the make-
shift tent. Then the ram will be chased helter skelter in such a
way that it will eventually pull down the make-shift tent. The
demolished tent represents the property being erected for you by
your Egbe in heaven. After this, the ram will be slaughtered and
its head buried where you are erecting your house. This is why it
is advisable to do this ritual at the site where the house is being
erected. It is also advisable that this ritual is done before the
completion of the house. On this, Ifa says:
Pa gunnugun bo’fa Awo won ni’le Alara

11. Ifa says that you are blessed with good Ori. You have
chosen all the good things of life without exception and
everything had been well recorded in your Ori. There is
however the problem of the fact that your Ese, legs, do
not complement your Ori. In other words, your legs are
working against the realization of the promises and
potentials of your destiny. There is the urgent need to
correct this anomaly. In order to correct this, there is the
need to offer ebo with three white pigeons, three guinea
fowls and money. After this, the Awo will prepare a
special soap with alupayida leaves. These leaves will be
pounded and mixed with the soap.
You need to dig three holes, wash your head in the hole at the
center, and wash the left leg in the hole on the left while the right
leg will be washed in the right hole in that order. If this can be
done, Ifa assures you that your Ese, legs will stop working against
your Ori. A stanza in Irete-Meji on this issue says:

12. Ifa advises you to offer ebo so as to avoid getting into
serious trouble within seven days. Ifa advises you to offer
ebo with one matured he-goat and money. You are
also to feed Esu Odara with one big cock.
Also, Ifa says it foresees the Ire of children for those suffering
from childlessness who are close to you. Ifa assures them that
they shall be blessed with the fruit of the womb.
For this to happen, Ifa advises each of the women to offer ebo
with four rats, four fish, two hens and money. There is also
the need to feed Ifa with one matured she-goat. On these two
aspects, Ifa says:

13. Ifa says that there is a group project going on where
this Odu is revealed. Ifa says that this project will
succeed but one person or group cannot do it
successfully. There is the need for all those involved in
the project or assignment to participate fully in order for it
to succeed. If this is not done, nothing on earth will make
it succeed.
Ifa states further that apart from the fact that all hands must be on
deck, each individual or group must have a specific function and
this should be done in such a way that there should not be
duplication of duties and each duty or assignment must be clearly
defined. In one word, there is the need to have a clearly defined
division of responsibility with each person or group assigned to
specific duties in order to ensure the success of the assignment
or project.
Ifa advises those involved to offer ebo with four pigeons, four
guinea fowls, four hens, four cocks and money. There is also
the need to feed Ifa with one matured she-goat and to feed Esu
Odara with one matured he-goat. On these, Irete Meji says:

Translation
A fi lakalaka ma jaa lakalaka
This was Ifa’s message to Orunmila
When coming from Heaven to earth
When coming to mend the world
He was advised to offer ebo
He complied
When he got to earth
As he was attending to problems in the home
Those from outside were calling for attention
A fi lakalaka ma jaa lakalaka
This was Ifa’s message to Esu Odara
When coming from Heaven to earth
When coming to mend the world
He was advised to offer ebo
He complied
Before long, not too far
Join us in the midst of all Ire in life
That is what Ifa guarantees for all its followers
Please give all what belong to Esu to him at the junction
of the three crossroads
So that he will have no cause to peep into the parlour.
14. Ifa says that the Elders of the Night (witches) are
fomenting trouble and wrecking havoc against you and
those close to you. Unfortunately, several innocent
people are being wrongfully accused over what they know
nothing about.
Ifa says that there is the need for proper investigation before
accusing anyone. Those falsely accused must be apologized to
and appropriate ebo needs to be performed.
Ifa says that if you are one of the people accusing others
wrongfully, you need to apologize to your victim(s) and offer ebo.
Conversely, if you are one of the people being falsely accused of
wrongdoing; you need to take everything in good faith. If you are
begged, there is the need for you to accept the apology graciously
without any ill-feeling. Ifa advises you to offer ebo with one
matured he-goat and money, whether you are the one accusing
others or you are the person being accused of wrong-doing. On
this, a stanza in Irete Meji says:
Eyele pooyi ranyin l’ojude apon
Dia fun Orunmila
Iyami n ba won ja
Won ni Iyewa ni
Ebo ni won ni ko waa se
O gb’ebo, o ru’bo
Iyewa Otooro Efon kii ba’ni i ja de’bi omo o.
Translation
Eyele pooyi ranyin l’ojude apon
He was the Awo who cast Ifa for Orunmila
When Iyami were fighting against them
And they were accusing Iyewa
He was advised to offer ebo
He complied
Behold, Osun Iyewa Otooro Efon will never fight
against anyone to the extent of harming his/her
child
15. Ifa says that there is the need to offer comprehensive
ebo for the community because there were many
unfortunate events taking place in the land. The cause of
this is not unconnected to the fact that the community had
offended the Irunmole and Orisa. These divinities are
angry with the community and they must be appeased to
bring back normalcy into the community.
Ifa also warns those who represent others to be truthful and
honest in all their assignments. If they fail to do so, the
consequence may be very disastrous and may even lead to loss
of lives. In the same vein, Ifa cautions that there must not be a
situation where people will be paying back good with evil. If they
are helped, they must show appreciation and must not let those
who do them good regret their actions. They must not maltreat
those who had assisted them one way or the other.
Ifa advises that you need to offer ebo with two matured he-
goats, 2 rats, two fish, two hens and money. You also need to
feed Ifa with one matured she-goat, feed Esu Odara with one
matured he-goat and feed Obatala with 16 snails, shea butter,
16 chalks, 10 metres of white cloth and drinks. On all these,
Ifa says:

Translation
Ojise aye
Igangan Ife
Orunmila had a deep meditation and arrested them
When the inhabitant of ile-Ife heard that these two had been
eliminated
They screamed like the masquerade of Iloye land
And shouted like the Elders of the Night
In their rage, they rushed to confront Orunmila at home
They did not meet him at home
Akale was a student of Orunmila
They slapped him in the face
Imulegbe was another student of Orunmila
They tore his Odun dress to shreds
Orunmila declared that he never knew that he had no honour
in Ile-Ife anymore
Orunmila got angry
He left Ile-Ife together with his two students
They headed for Elujuu-ko-seke-ko-sokun in the deep forest
The inhabitants of ile-Ife began to live in misery and
confusion
Penis became switch
Female genital became laba, leather
Pregnant women were unable to deliver safely
Barren women could not become pregnant
Oba’s horses had no grass to eat
The rich became chronic debtors
The invalid could not regain their health
Those who had hitherto been giving birth to bouncing babies
began to deliver still-births
They were running from pillar to post
They went to all Awos
And those doing consultation with cowries
The Awo said they had used their cowries to buy corn meal
They went from place to place
They got to the crab walks in hidden places
And walks in the dark
As if it has nothing to do with the stream
The Awo of Oluweri
Ifa’s message for the inhabitants of Otu-Ife
When Ajogun overwhelmed them completely
He asked them to go to Iponpon isepo seresere
Iponpon isepo seresere
He was the Awo who cast Ifa for them at Otu-Ife
When Ajogun overwhelmed them completely
They were advised to offer ebo
The Awo told them to look for a live antelope as ebo
materials
They pursued an antelope to Elujuu-ko-s’eke-ko-s’okun
They saw the three huts made with Imu leaves
They threw a stone at the hut
Obatala asked them to go and bring two rats, two fish, two
birds and two beasts as penalty for throwing stones at Imu
hut
They begged Oosa for a long time
Orisanla refused to accept their apology
Orunmila declared to Obatala thus
Ifa declared ‘Onikolo tun kolo sin’
Since the period that Obas were being installed
None had ever been like this one
The exception is Obatala Obatarisa
Oba patapata who lived in Iranje land
He was the one who held onto the rope of rainfall
And released that of intense sunshine
They asked him why he did so
He declared that he wanted all rats to die off
He wanted all fish to cease to exist
He wanted all birds to vanish on earth
He wanted all beasts to go into extinction
He even wanted all human being disappear from the earth’s
surface
Orunmila said that we eat and use rats
We eat and use fish
We eat and use birds
We eat and use beasts
And human beings are the ones who procured all these
items for us
May the rats not die off
May the fish not cease to exist
May the birds not vanish on earth
May the beasts not go into extinction
May human being not disappear from the earth’s surface
Eji Elemere, please come to our rescue
Before long, not too far
Join us in the midst of happiness
Come and behold all Ire in life
16. Ifa warns you that there is the need for you to do Ipese
for the Elders of the Night so that the problems that you are
encountering presently, caused by the witches, can be
eliminated. Ifa says that your life is being threatened by the
Elders of the Night. That is why Ifa recommends this ebo in
order to prevent you from experiencing untimely death.
Ifa advises that there is the need to offer ebo with a matured he-
goat and money. After this, there is the need to do Ipese with
one matured she-goat. This she-goat will be slaughtered from
the back of its neck as against its throat. The flesh of this goat
shall also be distributed raw. It must not be cooked in the house
where this ebo is offered or in the house of the Babalawo. On
this, Ifa says:
Eeran ti kekere p’eto

  • 15. Come and meet us where we celebrate victory Here comes Ifa The holy palm tree that manifests with efficacy. 10. Ifa says that you or someone close to you are presently erecting a building. There is the need for you to offer ebo immediately in order to avert an impending disaster. This is because as you are erecting the property on earth, your Egbe in heaven are also erecting another property for you in heaven in anticipation of your arrival. This is why it is necessary to offer ebo so that the house in heaven will be demolished while the one on earth will be completed. Ifa says that if this is not done in time, as soon as you complete the construction of the property on earth, you run the risk of losing your life under mysterious circumstances. Ifa advises you to offer ebo with one mature ram and money. A make-shift tent will be erected with sticks and palm fronds to represent the house in heaven. The ram will be tied to the make- shift tent. Then the ram will be chased helter skelter in such a way that it will eventually pull down the make-shift tent. The demolished tent represents the property being erected for you by your Egbe in heaven. After this, the ram will be slaughtered and its head buried where you are erecting your house. This is why it is advisable to do this ritual at the site where the house is being erected. It is also advisable that this ritual is done before the completion of the house. On this, Ifa says: Pa gunnugun bo’fa Awo won ni’le Alara P’akalamagbo b’ose Awo oke Ijero P’atioro bo’gun, al’aya bi obe eebo Faa-naanaa-ko-si-tu pee

Ifa says that you are blessed with good Ori. You have chosen all the good things of life without exception and everything had been well recorded in your Ori. There is however the problem of the fact that your Ese, legs, do not complement your Ori. In other words, your legs are working against the realization of the promises and potentials of your destiny. There is the urgent need to correct this anomaly. In order to correct this, there is the need to offer ebo with three white pigeons, three guinea fowls and money. After this, the Awo will prepare a special soap with alupayida leaves. These leaves will be pounded and mixed with the soap. You need to dig three holes, wash your head in the hole at the center, and wash the left leg in the hole on the left while the right leg will be washed in the right hole in that order. If this can be done, Ifa assures you that your Ese, legs will stop working against your Ori. A stanza in Irete-Meji on this issue says: Iwo ote

You are also to feed Esu Odara with one big cock. Also, Ifa says it foresees the Ire of children for those suffering from childlessness who are close to you. Ifa assures them that they shall be blessed with the fruit of the womb. For this to happen, Ifa advises each of the women to offer ebo with four rats, four fish, two hens and money. There is also the need to feed Ifa with one matured she-goat. On these two aspects, Ifa says:

There is the need for all those involved in the project or assignment to participate fully in order for it to succeed. If this is not done, nothing on earth will make it succeed. Ifa states further that apart from the fact that all hands must be on deck, each individual or group must have a specific function and this should be done in such a way that there should not be

In one word, there is the need to have a clearly defined division of responsibility with each person or group assigned to specific duties in order to ensure the success of the assignment or project. There is also the need to feed Ifa with one matured she-goat and to feed Esu Odara with one matured he-goat. • 25. 14. Ifa says that the Elders of the Night (witches) are fomenting trouble and wrecking havoc against you and those close to you. Unfortunately, several innocent people are being wrongfully accused over what they know nothing about. Ifa says that there is the need for proper investigation before accusing anyone. Those falsely accused must be apologized to and appropriate ebo needs to be performed. Ifa says that if you are one of the people accusing others wrongfully, you need to apologize to your victim(s) and offer ebo. Conversely, if you are one of the people being falsely accused of wrongdoing; you need to take everything in good faith. If you are begged, there is the need for you to accept the apology graciously without any ill-feeling. Ifa advises you to offer ebo with one matured he-goat and money, whether you are the one accusing others or you are the person being accused of wrong-doing. On this, a stanza in Irete Meji says: Eyele pooyi ranyin l’ojude apon Dia fun Orunmila Iyami n ba won ja Won ni Iyewa ni Ebo ni won ni ko waa se O gb’ebo, o ru’bo Iyewa Otooro Efon kii ba’ni i ja de’bi omo o. Ifa says that there is the need to offer comprehensive ebo for the community because there were many unfortunate events taking place in the land. The cause of this is not unconnected to the fact that the community had offended the Irunmole and Orisa. These divinities are angry with the community and they must be appeased to bring back normalcy into the community. Ifa also warns those who represent others to be truthful and honest in all their assignments. If they fail to do so, the consequence may be very disastrous and may even lead to loss of lives. In the same vein, Ifa cautions that there must not be a situation where people will be paying back good with evil. If they are helped, they must show appreciation and must not let those who do them good regret their actions. They must not maltreat those who had assisted them one way or the other. Ifa advises that you need to offer ebo with two matured he- goats, 2 rats, two fish, two hens and money. You also need to feed Ifa with one matured she-goat, feed Esu Odara with one matured he-goat and feed Obatala with 16 snails, shea butter, 16 chalks, 10 metres of white cloth and drinks. Ifa says that your life is being threatened by the Elders of the Night. That is why Ifa recommends this ebo in order to prevent you from experiencing untimely death. Ifa advises that there is the need to offer ebo with a matured he- goat and money. After this, there is the need to do Ipese with one matured she-goat.
