Smedley's line of thinking was more or less in line with YMCA's values (and Progressive era) values at the time. The primary focus was developing CHARACTER (and confidence THROUGH character) in people toward service for the greater good. In that era, there many kind of specialty interest and service clubs that were converging toward that higher purpose. The public speaking was Smedley's means to that.
Toastmaster Leadership Institute is the premiere Toastmaster training for every member in the Southern California Area. The twice a year training event of District 52 Toastmasters.
