language emphasis, therefore it can be considered that the ideology of translation is the Foreignization ideology.

This study investigates pragmatic and discourse transfer in the compliment response strategies used by Vietnamese learners of English when communicating with Australians. The study uses a new methodology called "Naturalized Role-play" to examine how compliment response strategies are combined in Vietnamese, Australian English, and the interlanguage of Vietnamese learners. This is the first study to analyze compliment responses in both Vietnamese and Australian English, as well as pragmatic and discourse transfer between the two languages. The results provide new insights into cross-cultural differences in politeness strategies and how first language and cultural influences may affect second language use through pragmatic and discourse transfer.

This document summarizes a study that investigated teachers' perceptions of code switching and the role of students' first language in bilingual classrooms. The researchers conducted semi-structured interviews with 10 expert linguists and education scholars. Most interviewees agreed that judicious and purposeful use of code switching can improve teaching performance by providing extra resources for teachers. However, some felt code switching is unnecessary or repetitive. The study concluded that a clear language policy is needed to guide appropriate language use in bilingual classrooms and support both teachers and students.

ABSTRACT : This research examines the ideology of translation applied in translating adjectives in an
English trilingual child story book entitled “Turtle and Dolphin” by Dunkle, et al (2012) which is written in
English, Indonesian, and Balinese. It has a message to keep the environment clean and green. This study is
aimed at finding out the translation ideology by describing the procedures and methods of translation. The data
were obtained by documentation method and note-taking technique. Three theories applied to analyze the
problems of study are translation procedures by Vinay and Dalbernet (in Venuti, 2000), translation methods by
Newmark‟s (1988), and translation ideology by Hatim & Mason (1997). The results showed that there are three
procedures applied including literal, transposition, and modulation. Meanwhile, the translation methods applied
were literal and communicative method. The amounts of source language emphasis is higher than the target
language emphasis, therefore it can be considered that the ideology of translation is the Foreignization ideology.
The use of this ideology is well adjusted especially for children as the main target readers. The translation result
is easier to comprehend as it is simpler and more neutral both in structure and meaning

This research apparently draws the form of the translated text which is occurred
by using the procedures in translation. In this research, the writer deals with the
procedure of modulation and transposition in Sang Pencerah movie and its
English subtitles The Enlightened One. The writer only focuses on analyzing and
describing the form of changing which is caused by modulation and transposition.
As well as the procedures analyzed the accuracy and clarity occurred from the
effect of those two procedures are measured and analyzed in order to have a sight
of a quality in translated text.
The phenomena of modulation and transposition procedures were classified based
on Catford, Chuquet and Paillard as the experts who supported the notion in detail
about modulation and transposition procedures proposed by Vinay and Dalbernet.
This research applied descriptive qualitative method. Sampling technique used
was purposive sampling and the sample criteria were The Enlightened One in
chapter 13-14 as the English subtitles of Sang Pencerah movie which were
influenced by modulation and transposition procedures. This research shows
result as follows: First, Most of data in English subtitles or 7 (23%) data from 31
modulations apply abstract for concrete modulation as the type used. Second,
most of data in English subtitles or 11 (32%) data from 34 transpositions or
shifting apply class shift as the type used. Third, the most frequently applied
procedure in English subtitles of Sang Pencerah movie is transposition with 34
(52%) occurrences procedure. Fourth, the most accurate and the clearest
procedure is transposition with 12 (48%) data indicated as accurate and 11 (44%)
data indicated as clear from 25 data-gained.
