1. Internship Evaluation
To whomsoever it may concern
Name: Bindu Duraikannu
Internship duration: 36 days ; 27.4.2014 to 2.6.2014
Project involvement and tasks Undertaken:
1. Sea Krait Monitoring Project (under ANET’s Research division)
2. Factors affecting regeneration of mangrove forests after human
disturbances (under ANET’s Research division)
Evaluation:
The tasks assigned to Bindu under the above projects were mainly data
collection, data entry and understanding the basic concepts of both projects.
In her brief involvement with both projects Bindu displayed a lot of initiative to
learn the nuances of the research. The qualities in Bindu that immediately stood
out in the field were her diligence and capacity to pay attention to minute
details.
We greatly appreciated her meticulousness while collecting and entering data
which is of paramount for any data driven research project, Bindu was able to
deliver this without much guidance and handholding . In many instances Bindu
was able to extend herself beyond expectations and identify areas that needed
additional assistance, showing the immense sense of ownership and
responsibility.
2. 3. Sustainable Tourism Policy for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands (under ANET’s
Policy division)
a. Literature Review
b. Destination Reports: Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park – Jolly
Buoy ; Chidya Tapu (
Evaluation:
The area of main focus during Bindu’s internship was related to a project under
ANET’s policy division specifically related to a policy document on ‘Sustainable
Tourism’ for the Tourism Department, Andaman & Nicobar Administration. I was
pleasantly surprised and impressed by Bindu’s grasp on multiple concepts
related to sustainability. Her personal interest in the subject and aptitude
towards sustainability, commerce and economics made her an ideal intern for
this particular project.
Her interest and motivation was consistently followed through in effort and
outputs delivered. In her task to conduct an in-depth literature review, she was
able to draw relevant information from various sources and systematic collate
for further use. With regard to the 2 destination reports, Bindu was able to
conduct a detailed evaluation of the current status, potential for sustainable
tourism at two locations with minimal guidance.
We wish Bindu all the best in her endeavors and feel confident that she will shine
through in any organization she chooses to work with.
Yours Sincerely,
Savita Vijayakumar
