The document discusses the topic of World Englishes. It begins by outlining Krachu's Three Concentric Circles model of the Inner Circle, Outer Circle, and Expanding Circle of English varieties. It then provides examples of English varieties from different regions, including Pidgin forms like Neo-Solomonic and Hawaiian Pidgin. The document also lists common questions researchers ask about World Englishes, such as how varieties are socially perceived, how recognizable they are, how English is used globally, and how varieties differ or are similar. Key findings are summarized around recognition of dialects and social perceptions of varieties.

Building an Institutional Repository Program in Two Months or Less: The Good,...Abby Clobridge
Most of the literature related to creating an institutional repository program suggests starting small -- either with one department or a project such as electronic theses and dissertations. At Bucknell University, we took an entirely different approach in an attempt to get broader experience by working with a cross-section of members of the university community and multiple types of digital objects all in one shot. This initial collection was built around Bucknell's participation in Focus the Nation, a one-day national teach-in being held at colleges and universities, designed to raise awareness about environmental issues. The resulting archive includes video and slide shows from faculty presentations, digital images taken of students and faculty with exhibits, electronic copies of research posters, and other relevant materials. Join us to learn about our experiences, problems encountered, and success stories as we managed to get an institutional repository program off the ground in less than two months. Topics will include: faculty copyright issues, developing a license for submitting materials to a repository; video recording an event from a novice's perspective; working with video files; using an Akamai server; attempting to build a collection with other institutions; getting submissions from students; and Open Access 101 for faculty -- a.k.a., yes, it will be accessible on the Internet.
The document discusses Pennsylvania's Classrooms for the Future initiative, which aims to modernize classrooms with new technologies like laptops, projectors, and digital cameras over three years. It provides $200 million for "smart" classrooms and additional funding for teacher professional development. The program will equip core subject classrooms in public high schools and career and technical centers. Schools will receive a coach to help teachers integrate technology into lessons and get students more engaged as active learners through projects like creating multimedia presentations or analyzing scientific data. Early results suggest improvements in student performance and perceptions like attendance and engagement.
Proximate causation refers to the direct causes of events or phenomena, whereas ultimate causation refers to the deeper, underlying causes.
In the context of Jared Diamond's Guns, Germs, and Steel, he argues that:
- Proximate causes of European conquest, for example, were their military and technological superiority (guns and steel).
- But the ultimate causes lay much deeper, in the geographic and environmental factors that shaped the development of Eurasian civilizations for thousands of years prior (germs, crops, animals suitable for domestication etc.). These "ultimate" factors gave Eurasian societies advantages that enabled them to develop technologies and immunities that then manifested as military dominance during the age of conquest.
The document discusses using PowerPoint presentations in science classrooms and provides tips and examples. It suggests that clickers can be used for attendance, content review, and increasing student engagement. It also presents multiple choice questions about the evolution of the eukaryotic cell and the order of organelle acquisition. The document then provides guidelines for effective PowerPoint slide design, including limiting the number of words and lines of text per slide. It offers examples of slide content and provides suggestions for incorporating images, audio, charts, and breaking content across multiple slides. Finally, it discusses presentation tools and getting feedback from students.
This document outlines the learning objectives and activities for a course on the geology of the ocean. The objectives are to describe theories of plate tectonics and continental drift, identify major ocean basins and coastal features, and discuss the relationship between tectonic processes and ocean floor landforms. Students will participate in a scavenger hunt activity to learn about these topics, and complete additional assignments to diagram ocean zones and make a video about ocean floor features.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like
Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can
occur natural.

Something that applies a uniform shearing / cutting force over a wide area on a consistent enough basis to achieve this high level of uniformity with such massive removal of material?
A global tidal wave ripping round the planet repeatedly as the earth rotated, cutting down layer after layer?
What about a Tsunami?
