Scientists use models to represent complex objects or events in order to help visualize and understand them. There are different types of models including computer models, physical models that can be touched, and idea models. Examples of using models to illustrate dangerous processes include using crash dummies to simulate car crashes, testing chemicals on simulated skin in a lab, sending astronauts on weightless flights to simulate space, and using wind tunnels to test airplane designs.
