You might think that a game is not suitable for every type of product, but during my talk I'll show several examples on how you can advertise your brand and grab the attention of your audience and the media by "gamifying" your content.
Moreover, we'll explore ways of taking the games further and make them into data that you can outreach and also how to make this content evergreen.

This sentiment couldn’t possibly be more wrong. Along the path to constructing a scalable cloud service, there are many options and critical decisions to take.
This talk covers our missteps and our revised successful choices of building Bintray. We will share our challenges and how it affected our approach towards issues like: segmenting the system; supporting horizontal scaling; physical vs virtual hosts; handling cross data center deployments; managing redundancy; and supporting a cloud-based development environment. Many of these approaches you can replicate in your own construction of your next cloud solution.

Kill the Mutants - a better way to test your tests by Roy van Rijn
Mutation testing involves automatically generating mutated versions of code and running tests to see if they fail or pass. If a test fails on a mutated version, it "kills" that mutant, proving the code is properly tested. Popular tools like PIT make mutation testing easy to integrate into development and CI/CD pipelines by manipulating bytecode at runtime and using test coverage to select relevant tests to run. Mutation testing finds weaknesses in test suites that code coverage alone cannot detect, making it a more meaningful way to evaluate test quality than just measuring lines or branches executed.

1. AMP builds compressed natural gas (CNG) stations across the US as their main business. CNG is a cleaner, cheaper, and safer alternative to gasoline and diesel but requires infrastructure like CNG stations to be used widely.
2. AMP also helps truck fleets transition to using CNG through logistical analysis, financial subsidies, and leasing CNG trucks. Truck fleets are ideal early adopters of CNG due to their high fuel usage and consistent routes.

There are three hard things in computer science: cache invalidation, naming things, and off-by-one errors. This session tackles naming, especially Docker version naming. Labels, tags, checksums...how should you use them to keep track of Docker versions? What about dev versus prod images—how best to distinguish those? What about the “latest” tag? What about cleanup? Could we do more? Versioning often seems like a simple problem, but when you have a tool that gives you as much power and flexibility as Docker does, it often helps to develop guidelines. The presentation examines the tools available for managing Docker images and some simple patterns you can employ in various use cases for CI/CD to keep track of your containers.

Measures in SQL (SIGMOD 2024, Santiago, Chile)
SQL has attained widespread adoption, but Business Intelligence tools still use their own higher level languages based upon a multidimensional paradigm. Composable calculations are what is missing from SQL, and we propose a new kind of column, called a measure, that attaches a calculation to a table. Like regular tables, tables with measures are composable and closed when used in queries.
SQL-with-measures has the power, conciseness and reusability of multidimensional languages but retains SQL semantics. Measure invocations can be expanded in place to simple, clear SQL.
To define the evaluation semantics for measures, we introduce context-sensitive expressions (a way to evaluate multidimensional expressions that is consistent with existing SQL semantics), a concept called evaluation context, and several operations for setting and modifying the evaluation context.
