Leaving Certificate History 
Prescribed Topics for Documents-based Assessment in Leaving Certificate examinations 
2016 and 2017 
1. Assessment arrangements for Leaving Certificate History are outlined in the revised Leaving Certificate History Syllabus and the accompanying Guidelines for Teachers. There are two components at both OrdinaryLevel and Higher Level: 
• A report on the research study, with a mark allocation of 20% 
• A terminal examination, with a mark allocation of 80%. 
2. The syllabus offers a choice of two Fields of Study: 
• Early Modern (Ireland, 1494-1815 and Europe and the wider world, 1492-1815) 
• Later Modern (Ireland, 1815-1993 and Europe and the wider world, 1815-1992). 
3. At both Higher Level and Ordinary Level the terminal written examination includes questions on each of the twelve topics in the chosen Field of Study: Early Modern or Later Modern. Candidates should answer on three of the topics in their chosen Field of Study as well as answering the compulsory documents-based question on a topic nominated by the State Examinations Commission. 
4. The State Examinations Commission prescribes the following topics for documents-based assessment for examination in the years 2016 and 2017: 
5. Guidelines for undertaking documents-based study may be found in the Guidelines for Teachers. 
6. Please bring this circular to the attention of all teachers of Leaving Certificate History in your school. 
7. Please provide a copy of this circular to the appropriate representative of parents and teachers, for transmission to individual parents and teachers.

1. Rianaítear na socruithe measúnachta do Stair na hArdteistiméireachta i Siollabas Staire na hArdteistiméireachta leasaithe agus sna Treoirlínte do Mhúinteoirí a ghabhann leis. Tá dhá chomhpháirt ann, ar an Ardleibhéal agus ar an nGnáthleibhéal araon: 
• Tuarascáil ar an staidéar taighde, a bhfuil 20% de na marcanna ag gabháil leis 
• Scrúdú ceannchúrsa, a bhfuil 80% de na marcanna ag gabháil leis. 
2. Tugann an siollabas rogha dhá Réimse Staidéir: 
• An Luathaois (Éire, 1494-1815 agus an Eoraip agus an domhan mór, 1492-1815) 
• An Nua-Aois (Éire, 1815-1993 agus an Eoraip agus an domhan mór, 1815-1992). 
3. Ag an scrúdú scríofa ceannchúrsa ar an Ardleibhéal agus ar an nGnáthleibhéal araon, tá ceisteanna san áireamh ar gach ceann den dá thopaic déag sa Réimse Staidéir roghnaithe: An Luathaois nó an Nua-Aois. Ba chóir d’iarrthóirí freagra a thabhairt ar thrí cinn de na topaicí ina Réimse Staidéir roghnaithe chomh maith le freagra a thabhairt ar an gceist doiciméad-bhunaithe éigeantach ar thopaic a roghnóidh Coimisiún na Scrúduithe Stáit. 
4. Sonraíonn Coimisiún na Scrúduithe Stáit na topaicí seo a leanas don mheasúnacht doiciméad-bhunaithe atá le scrúdú sna blianta 2016 agus 2017:

6. Cuir an ciorclán seo ar a n-aird do na múinteoirí ar fad atá ag plé le Stair na hArdteistiméireachta i do scoil, le do thoil.
