”Vores problemstilling er at 
udforme datavisualiseringer, 
som faciliterer en meningsfyldt 
dialog mellem kliniker og patient 
samt danner et bedre grundlag 
for en medicinsk behandling.”
WEMA projektet 
Målsætning: At undersøge potentialet i at understøtte piskesmældsskadede i deres 
udvikling af praksis med deres lidelse gennem selvrapporteret data. 
Delmål: At undersøge hvorvidt en kompliceret lidelse som Whiplash kan formaliseres 
således visualiseringerne fremkalder genkaldelse og refleksioner. 
At undersøge hvilken kultur der opstår omkring brugen af en prototypen. 
Genre: Design baseret forskning. 
Projektet blev udarbejdet i samarbejde med Piskesmældsforeningen.
WEMA projektet 
Whiplash syndrom referer til klynger 
af skader lokaliseret i nakkeområdet 
og det øverste af ryggen. 
Whiplash skader opstår oftest ved en 
uforudset kraftpåvirkning som sætter 
kroppen i pludselig bevægelse eller 
stilstand. 
Sygdommen er diffus og manifesteres 
ofte forskelligt fra patient til patient. 
Lidelsen rammer mellem 6-7000 
danskere om året. (diagnose) 
15-25% udvikler en kronisk tilstand.
WEMA projektet 
Problem space: 
De skadesramte er yderst stress og 
kontekst sensitive. 
Skadesramte beskriver selv livet med 
lidelsen som en kontinuerlig 
læreproces. 
Skadesramte ligger mange kræfter i at 
cope mentalt med sygdommen. 
(Accept, Positivitet og pacing adfærd) 
Skadesramte har ofte svært ved at 
gennemskue sammenhængen mellem 
handlinger og langsigtet 
symptomudvikling. (Kvalificering af 
egne handlinger)
Tilgang til Datavisualisering 
Optik: Selfmanagement er en 
problem baseret lærings aktivitet. 
Målet med datavisualiseringen bliver 
at imødekomme kognitive 
forvrængninger (why) gennem 
visualiseringer af konkrete handlinger 
i skadesramtes naturlige miljø. 
Visualiseringerne skulle danne 
modpol til bias. 
Udvikling af self-efficacy og expansion 
af Locus of control
