3. • 29 January 1957 Architect Jorn Utzon won the international competition of
Sydney Opera House.
• Construction started on 2 March 1959 and completed on 20 October 1973.
Took 14 years for construction. Total capacity of 5738 people.
• 28 June 2007 Declared as world heritage site and has been recognized by
UNESCO as a masterpiece of human creative genius.
• The building transformed his ( Architect’s) career and in turn, transformed the
image of the nation.
